Holiday Inn DES MOINES DTWN - MERCY AREA, an IHG Hotel

We stayed because we had an early surgery the next day at the children's hospital, which the 2 minute drive was really easy to navigate to. The room was kind of falling apart - the secondary lock on the door was hanging on by half the screws, and very loose, the shower fixture was broken, and the vents in the shower were super dusty. I was up every hour thinking someone was going to break it, but that's probably just my paranoia. The pool did not have steps going into it, so it was difficult for my young son or anyone with disabilities to get in and out (there was a ladder). The pool temp was nice & warm, but the pool room was freezing! The lobby "bar" didn't allow children under 18 in after 8pm (even though there was not a single person there, and my son was well behaved on a tablet) so we had to visit with our local friends in the lobby. But it is what it is. Also, the parking lot was closed for renovations, so we had to park in the lot behind the hotels lot. That would have been nice to know prior to arrival. Overall, great location if you are going to Mercy, but I wouldn't stay there with my family again.

Stayed a several Holiday Inns and this was the worst one. Greeting immediately with the parking lot / unloading zone area closed so you had to park across the street. While walking into the hotel it’s not really clear why it’s closed. No construction or anything just conned off. We go to check it, the employee kept speaking with a man off to the side I Spanish who at first you would think was a guest, nope he was someone who worked there and I guess made the food because we were told “if the food sucks, it’s his fault” then continues to speak Spanish to him while checking us in. We get to the room, super muggy and the window does open a little (I get that for safety since we are on a higher floor) but not being able to use the AC since it’s “fall” is nuts. The room is dated. We go for breakfast in the morning, sign says “section closed” yet there is people in the area eating and breakfast still had another hour at this point. We just walked by it since we didn’t have much time to get to what we were doing. I guess we were supposed to be seated but no one was there to do it. Food was ok. This was lower on the per night but I suggest spending the money and staying somewhere else.

Location was great. Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast buffet was disappointing. Selection was good but food was not very warm.

Parking sucks. Rude bar tender. Room smelled. Pool unavailable due to a party. Should be a time limit even for the kids. It should be free breakfast due to the quality. All other staff were nice, rooms were cleaned and decent room prices

Thought that breakfast was free, The room was hot even when they brought 2 fans up to the room. Had to park in a parking lot a block away very inconvenient for guests. Do better.

We enjoyed our stay here. We were in town for a baseball game so we didn’t use the room for more than sleeping, but it was very nice and quiet. I would definitely recommend 10/10!

Our room was so noisy it was as if we were sleeping on the highway. When we stay in Des Moines we will stay elsewhere next time.

Nice. I wish breakfast was included. Close to downtown and shuttle to state fairgrounds

This property needs a total renovation. The room and furniture were nice enough, but the bathroom is outdated. The toilet would run on and off during the night. The AC unit was VERY loud. The parking deck was CLOSED, and the temporary/alternate parking was further from the building. This was very inconvenient. The overall experience felt like a rip off for the price paid.

The room that we got - facing the freeway was loud and the air/cond. was loud - not only that the Parking lot was across the street.

Stay was great minus the fack that their primary parking spots were not open. Had to use the back lot for parking. Then, we walked through the empty blocked off primary lot to get to the door. The staff were kind and the pool area was clean.

Worked well for an overnight stay . And really appreciated the shuttle to the aurport
