The Bird In Hand

The room was hot and smelled musty (Wren) when I walked in. I immediately opened the windows to try and get rid of the smell, but the windows are on a cable, so don't open very far. The radiator in the bathroom was on full which didn't help matters and I con't think there was a way to turn it off, despite being 16 degrees outside. When I tried to use the air conditioning, it turned on, but I couldn't get it to blow any air. To be fair, I didn't report any of the issues as I dragged off my hot motorbike gear and was too exhausted to get dressed and go back downstairs. Staff may well ahve resolved the heat issue for me if I'd asked. Slept with the window open all night, but luckily it was quiet - absolutely no noise from outside despite being a pub. On the positive side, the bed was really comfy, pillows were good and I was given somewhere out of sight to park the motorbike where I could chain it to a post. The staff are really friendly and helpful too. Can't comment on breakfast as it starts at 7am and I had already left.

The staff was absolutely lovely, but the photos didn’t ring true to actuality. The carpet was riddled with stains, the room smelled musty, the bathroom toilet lid had permanent scratches that made it feel dirty, the walls were marked with stains and scratches, the ceiling was damaged, and there were termites or flying ants inside near windows. Again, staff was so kind.

The people were lovely and friendly, check in was quick and easy, and the room was clean and comfortable. 100% recommend

Our go-to hotel if we need somewhere to stay before a Heathrow flight. The staff are all very friendly, food is excellent (both dinner and breakfast), plentiful parking. We stayed in an executive room this time - we liked the extra space and would book this again. Last time we were there we were helping some friends who had suffered a tragedy that day, and I managed to knock over a large G&T. Even without knowing what we were dealing with, the lady behind the bar calmly cleared up the mess and sorted a fresh one - no charge and no judgement. We really appreciated her kindness.

Second visit, great room, clean, good coffee in the room, parking on site. My only gripe on this visit is the mattress was awful, I could feel the springs through the mattress.

I am not sure how a hotel can justify a double room at £123 without breakfast and then charge £5 for a small bottle of water in the room. Staff were friendly and room was large and clean but whole place needs an update. Evening meal was overpriced mediocre pub food. Would I book again, doubt it.

Great hotel, traditonally decorated room but comfortable and spacious. Great food in the pub downstairs and helpful staff.

A very good b&b pub. Good facilities, clean and good bathroom. Cost of evening meal a little high for the quality.

Accommodation was excellent. Beautifully decorated room and well equipped with tea and coffee, fresh milk, water and lovely toiletries. Could not fault room. Very good choice for breakfast which we enjoyed. Dinner was not so enjoyable and we didn’t feel it was value for money. Staff all very polite and friendly. This is a great place to stay.

This is a great place to stay, very comfortable rooms and the food is excellent. Great value for money as well.

This was the loveliest little night away with my daughter. Drinking tea and listening to Classic FM in a big, comfy bed was the literal dream. My only observation was that the towel rail was hotter than the 9th circle and I stupidly burnt my arm.

I liked the friendly staff and the delicious restaurant.

I have enjoyed staying at this establishment in the past, but unfortunately, it feels like it's going downhill with little effort being made to maintain the high standards it once had. During my recent stay, I encountered several issues that were quite disappointing: No remote control for the TV: This made it inconvenient to use the television. Carpet with signs of spillage: The carpet had numerous stains, indicating a lack of proper cleaning. Flickering light in the bathroom: This made using the bathroom quite challenging and uncomfortable. Showerhead and bar not fit for purpose: The shower setup was inadequate and difficult to use. Unprofessional repair work: A noticeable and poorly executed repair suggested that maintenance is being handled by someone inexperienced in DIY. Given these issues, I regret to say that I will not be returning.

Really nice pub, good food and drink. Nice rooms, well maintained. The only negatives were that the matress on my bed was really uncomfortable, past its best by a long way. Also, the price of the food was too high for what it was, very nice but a checken burger is not worth £18.95....

(Stayed in Room 2) Firstly the food was absolutely fantastic! I mean wow, wow, wow. Devoured the lot! 5* for the food. We would happily come for dinner again and again. The room was pleasant, clean and the bath was lovely and spacious (could fit two SLIM people satisfactory). Loved the tea selection and mini fridge compliments as well! However, when you opened the cupboard with the ironing board, a smell of mouldy cheese comes wafting out (so I quickly closed that and moved swiftly on) we booked for a king size bed but instead got two single beds pushed together!? Essentially trying to create the illusion of a king size bed… but a terrible idea when you have a crack in the middle between you and your loved one. The bed was uncomfortable, overly bouncy and springy and lacked any sense of comfort so we didn’t sleep great at all and woke up feeling stiff as a rod the following morning so I wouldn’t recommend staying overnight, unless you are willing to pay for a luxury room. However we would highly recommend going for dinner.

Nice room, service and food. Staff was courteous and professional.
