Having booked and prepaif a room I was a bit disappointed that every bar and food transaction had to be pre-paid and I could not run a tab. This was particularly frustrating as bar service was a bit slow and I was with a client meaning I had to break our discussion several times. Additionally in the room there is an emergwncy light. It has a large green bulb that is quite bright and illiminates the whole room. Its like sitting under the Aurora Borealis and kept waking us up. It could be repalced with a tiny LED as its purpose is only to show the emergency lighting is working. Other than those things it was OK.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good value for money.

The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was clean and the bed comfortable but niether the shower or the bath could be used. The bathplug would not stay down so bath could not be filled and the knob to alter it to the shower would not stay up so the shower could not be used. The hot tap in the sink did not turn off fully. In my opinion this room was not fit to be let due to this. It was room 5. There was no one there when we left at 10.15 to talk to about this. Belinda Canning

Basic room but ok. Very slow service for dinner - waited well over 1hour.

Clean, tidy, basic, just what I needed. Had a lovely meal in the pub, would highly recommend

The rooms are in a different building from the pub. Old but relatively clean. They were having water problems which was difficult for showering etc, The breakfast hours were limited so we missed out as the place was all locked up when we went to inquire. Staff member was fairly curt and quite rude. They need more staff and a more relaxed attitude with guests. Supper food was acceptable but steak was tough. It’s basically a pub with rooms attached. Would not stay there again.

Very clean

long as you give your registration number plate at check in. The reception bit was around the side of the bar but I didn't see any signs! A bit of a wait as they were serving customers. When checking in, all information is given. The rooms are set in another building next to the pub. The room was a good size as was the bathroom. The bad bits!! The bed looked like it wasn't made properly as it was all crinkly like someone just laid on top of it with dirty clothes on, lots of black bits, hair and stains. The bathroom taps and sink didn't look clean at all! The tea/coffee tray was dirty. I remade the bed and flipped over the duvet and pillows! The bed was comfortable enough. Shower was hot but not overly powerful. Wifi was good Breakfast not included, unsure if you can add it on. Check out the bar door was closed so just put the key in the letter box. Evening meal was good plenty of choices and good value. Location next to the train station and a beautiful river. I'd stay again but would definitely try a different room and hopefully it would be better made up!!!

No hot or event warm water in the early mornings A first for us but things go wrong, and although disappointing and very inconvenient I can accept that this can happen. What I cannot accept is the radio silence. It’s now 36 hours since checking out and reporting this to the morning staff (who said they knew about the problem) and would tell the management. But NO acknowledgment AT ALL. No apology.. nothing. So I write this report to accompany our stay. I swerved the travelodge to give the local ‘up scale’ (their words!) establishment a chance but they let themselves down. Avoid.

Enjoyed the food we had there. Room was clean, comfortable. Pub itself lacked comfortable seating and heating. Had to eat with our coats on.

A pleasant convenient place to stay. Especially like to have a bath. Croissant at breakfast memorable BUT WHY CANT THERE BE A SMALL GREEN SALAD AS A SIDE ORDER WITH A MEAL??

I arrived at the Swan Thatcham at 7.30pm and I was informed on the arrival that my booking was cancelled 3 hour earlier and an email was sent. The reason of cancellation was a wasp net found in a room!!! I have not received any email and I had to find a hotel not to be left on the street for the night. Not a nice experience.

Fine for what we required. The staff were friendly. The rooms and public areas could benefit from updating. The bath and shower in rooms 1 & 2 are very small . Low height for shower so not ideal for anyone over about 5'8" tall

Was just a stopover on a motorcycle road trip and the Swan was perfectly fine stop clean and all I needed with out of the way parking for the bike. Staff were nice and helpful, had an OK, average breakfast in the morning. I also ate here the evening of my stay and this was not great, perhaps between chefs 🤔

It was good for the price , but couldn’t have a shower as water kept losing power
