The Lovat at Loch Ness is a charming and stylish lakeside hotel. The property has two lovely lounges, even a grand piano, and is equipped with an elevator — a thoughtful touch. Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. Breakfast was a highlight: besides the classic Highland Breakfast, we tried the Kedgeree (smoked haddock with curried rice and poached egg), which was absolutely delicious and a wonderful Scottish surprise.
The hotel’s location in Fort Augustus adds to the experience. The town itself is full of character, with the Caledonian Canal locks right at the center — watching the boats rise and fall is like a slow, graceful performance. We only stayed one night but wished we had stayed longer to enjoy the rhythm and atmosphere of this beautiful place.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Lovat. The staff was the best of all of Scotland(from Edinburg, Fort Augustus and Isle of Skye). The hotel is beautiful and you can walk a short distance to town. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend.

Great hotel. We checked in late. Rooms were clean and updated. Only downside was that coffee bar was in closet despite having two tables outside. Making coffee inside that closet and finding twitch to turn it on was challenging but not deal breaker. Will surely stay here if I visit the area again.

For the price, this place disappointed. Welcome toddies were offered at check-in but a non-alcoholic option was only available for a charge. The bathroom needed attention (e.g., toilet ran, shower door off its track). Dinner at Station Road had waitstaff that was not versed in the menu and a wee bit frenetic, as well as unaware of pre-booked vegetarian and birthday requests.
