First thoughts walking in was a very beautiful old building, the rooms were huge, and at first sight looked very clean, but then found a dirty yoghurt lid and bottle top under bed, toilet hadn’t been flushed, and lots of thick dusty cobwebs in the light shades, In my daughter’s room the single bed runner was extremely stained, there wasn’t a proper shower screen so when showering, the floor became wet through. There was tea bags and no sugar in my room, or teaspoons, and the tray that the kettle on still had stains from the previous guests, there was no teabags only coffee in my daughter’s room. This was rectified quickly by going down and asking at reception but I feel housekeeping maybe need to be more vigilant. The hotel is in a prime position for exploring Scarborough but let down by its cleanliness.

The Royal is a favourite of ours as it is near to everything and always clean and tidy and the staff are always helpful. No noise and our room was top notch.

Unfortunately, on reflection we were disappointed with our stay at the Royal. The room we were allocated was in very poor condition and badly in need of redecoration. There were cobwebs around the windows and skirting boards and dirty marks on the desk chair. The bathroom was also in a poor state. I can appreciate that an historic hotel like the Royal requires a lot of resource to maintain it but in this case it just seems to be lack of investment and care. We found the breakfast to be fairly average, plenty of options for the "cooked breakfast" but other options such as fresh fruit and individual yoghurts were not available. On a positivie note the staff were friendly and helpful and the wifi in the room and common areas seemed to work well.

We had a really nice stay and would definitely like to come again. The overall appearance of the communal area is absolutely stunning

Rooms were nice and spacious, bathrooms were clean and came with towels and soap. Bed could have been slightly comfier, service and staff were great and very polite. Pool and Sauna were a very good add on, roof terrace was beautiful and gym was okay. Beautiful interior and nice bar area with entertainment on an evening, really enjoyed it. great value for money.

Everything was great

Lovely hotel situated at the top of the cable car lift for those not as mobile. Very friendly staff, breakfast was really nice with plenty of options

Had an early check in was seen to right away very pleasant and friendly I asked for a room with a view as I’m claustrophobic. I was upgraded to a sea view at no extra cost. we paid for dinner and breakfast all meals were delicious got seated straightaway . Our room was nice and big with 2 tub chairs for watching to the bed was a king size and nice and comfy .Only thing wrong was the floorboards in some places were a bit squishy I think may need replacing and headboard and side lamps a bit old fashioned but for the price we paid and upgrade I can’t complain .We will definitely be back thankyou for a lovely stay . S

The foyer was very impressive but the property & room seemed very tired

We usually stay at the Royal when we visit Scarborough, and are normally happy with our room. However on this stay we thought the room was very dated and needed a good paint job, the bathroom door didn't close properly unless you slammed it. The two lamps in the room were awkward as the plugs were hard to find to turn on. The room was stuffy, the bed was tilted , only one pillow each and were very hard. The only good thing was the shower was fabulous.

Lovely hotel but a bit tired in places.

The room was very nice indeed, easily found a parking space, reception was very pleasant and helpful. 2 downsides. Firstly, there seemed to be some mix-up as to whether breakfast finished at 9 or 9.30, even staff serving breakfast unsure, there was a food shortage at 9.05 when we appeared, so we only selected one of each item to be courteous to other guests appearing after us. The food we did have was very nice. Second was the check-out time of 10am, it was a rush in the morning as opposed to being relaxed. May I suggest you revise the breakfast times to 8am to 10am, check-in at 3pm, check-out at 11am during the week, would make for a pleasant and more relaxed stay.
