Yangshuo City has become a big tourist hub (mainly Chinese tourists). The Yangshuo Mountain Retreat is a short taxi (electric scooter ride) to Yangshuo and the surrounding attractions, but sits on a quiet bend of the picturesque Yulong river (almost rivals the Li River Karst tower area in beauty and is a lot less busy). During the day a number of the bamboo rafts with one of two folks floating down the river go by. A night their grass riverfront restaurant is bucolic. The staff speak good English and seem especially understanding of Western tourists. I would definitely stay here again.

The place is gorgeous and staff is warm & friendly

I find the hotel location excellent and the view from our hotel rooms were stunning. (Especially on 1st floor) However, I happened to visit in a slow season in the midst of the hotel's renovation and there were some disturbances. The hotel did told us ahead of time and I accepted the inperfection. Furnitures in the rooms are mostly antique furnitures which bring us back to a nostagic Guilin days. If that serves your desire, this is the right hotel for you. They serve excellent local food and even western breakfast and meals in their restaurant. Weather was excellent and we enjoyed the outdoor scenery while having our meals. The stay at the hotel enhances the whole trip for sure. Thanks to the dedicated staffs at the hotel.

Beautiful resort, great scenery, can see Yulong river right from window. There are free bicycles for hotel guests and we ride along the river walkway. Interior of room is clean while a bit old. Great stay

Everything about the property felt authentic, in keeping with the environment and local culture.

景色やスタッフのサービスは良いが、アメニティーが不足・フロントへの通信手段がない。今回の宿泊は1階の部屋だったが2階の宿泊者の足音やトイレを流す音が響き安眠できない。

This is one of my all time favorite hotels ever!! The location is on the river and they have lounge furniture to sit out and enjoy the view. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and speak English so communication is easy. They have a list of activities and will help get a driver to anything you want to do. I am looking forward to the next time I get to visit there.

Lovely service, amazing views! Stayed here on a recommendation from a friend. The hotel is about 15 min from the center of town but is quite convenient to order a DiDi or have the hotel assist in transport. Lots to see in the immediate area, Moon hill, etc.

This is a beautiful hotel with beautiful rooms and views. It was by far the most relaxing part of our trip to China. We loved it. The bikes were fun. The list of outdoor activities were so helpful as were the staff. The hotel was very clean and the view unbeatable. We road our bikes to other parts of Yangshuo and no hotel could beat this. Plus they have amazing tea. The beds were so nice. The only think that would be better would be to have their shuttle run more frequently. Otherwise, perfect.

Amazing setting of hotel right on the river with amazing view. All the women working at the hotel were extra attentive and polite and arranged for us river cruise tickets and taxi transfers and saved us when we got too far away in country site and was about to get dark. They also spoke very good english especially Kate and Anne. The food was also very good and fresh. Definetly going back.

Excelente Todo

If you are wanting peace and tranquility then this is the one. It has the wow factor, directly on the river bank with the Karsts as the backdrop and very secluded.

Der grösste Pluspunkt ist definitiv die direkte Lage am Yulong Fluss. Das Hotel verleiht kostenlos Fahrräder und man sollte undbedingt in dieser traumhaft schönen Landschaft entlang des Flusses eine Radtour unternehmen. Das Zimmer war grosszügig, das Bett sehr bequem. Platz im Badezimmer rund um das Waschbecken äusserst begrenzt. Das Licht im Badezimmer nicht ausreichend. Sehr gutes Frühstück.

The Yangshuo Mountain Retreat surpassed my expectations. The staff were very attentive and very fluent in English. The location is so serene. It’s second to none. The food was top notch. Great selections, very tasty and very reasonable. Lots of international guests. Many returning 2-4 times. It deserves at “10”.

Hotel with amazing Yulong river view. Enjoy breakfast overlooking people doing their bamboo rafting. Reception staff are very friendly and speaks good English, Michelle suggested good day trips. Kate helped us to sort out the motorbike rental trouble. Free bike for us to cycle along the trail to other docks (highly recommend). Since the hotel is located in a restricted area, transportation to Yangshuo West street need to be arranged thru the reception. Hotel restaurant provided nice Chinese dishes (e.g. snail & small shrimp dishes are so nice). Western style food is also nice especially the desert. We are glad we booked this hotel. Consider coming back again to explore more Yangshuo.

Staying at Yangshuo Mountain Retreat was the highlight of our trip to China. We were warmly welcomed by the staff upon arrival and they were keen to assist with our many questions about the area. The room was comfortable and very clean and tidy. The river views from our room and private balcony were sensational and the in room massage service was very relaxing. The huge range of food catered for both local and western cuisines and was delicious. We recommend eating at the in house restaurant for any meal of the day. It is both affordable and tasty. On a night in, we ate dinner by candle light on the peaceful banks of the river. The meal and the view made it a night to remember and the service was exceptional. The free bicycle hire was very handy as it allowed us easy access to the river trails and the town. The staff spoke very good English and were able to recommend trips and tips to us. They also organised a very professional driver to take us to the Longji rice terraces and drop us to our next hotel at the end of our stay. Yangshuo is a town with lots to offer and undeniable beauty. The night markets in particular are amazing. It should be an unmissable addition to your itinerary and a stay at the Yangshuo Mountain Retreat would be highly advisable. We will certainly be back on our next trip to China!!

I had some wonderful days staying at this gem in Yangshuo. In my opinion to stay here is the only real alternative if traveling to Yangshuo, as the rest of the region is more or less ruined by mass tourism. For me it was actually a question of paying a little extra to stay here or not to travel to Yangshuo at all. I am so thankful that I chose the first option as it turned out to be the highlight of my 2 weeks traveling in China. Eventhough it’s only a 15 minute drive to the city centre of Yangshuo (which really was a dump), it feels as a lightyear away. Here you are surrounded by farmland and slow life, without tacky tourist things. Last but not least, the landscape is surreal. Dreamlike karst mountains in all directions. I loved to sit at my balcony with a magnificent view of the river and the mountains. The rest of the time I spent bicycling alongside the river and to some old villages. About the hotel: It’s eco friendly and urges to sustainability. The American owner happened to be visiting during my stay. He was friendly and seemed sensible. He cares about the hotel’s impact on the environment and about his employees, who are people from local villages. They were friendly and professional. My room was lovely and I didn’t miss anything. Not all rooms have balconies, but, depending on the weather, you can always enjoy the view from the garden. The vegetarian food was surprisingly boring. E.g. plain vegetables or noodles without anything(!) I was chronically hungry..!

Probably the hotel with the most beautiful natural surroundings that I have seen (and I have travelled quite a lot). The staff were very friendly and did their best to make us feel at home.
