The staff were friendly and the hotel is in a great spot if you want to take a dip in the river - you can do that directly from the hotel garden/outdoor seating area.
Our room was clean and in a quiet part of the building. There is no air conditioning but a fan was provided, which helped.
Would be happy to stay again.

Room was fine, although the soap dispensers leave a mess on the wall. A pool area is closed but we could swim in the river which was probably better. Beautiful view from the restaurant for the ok food. Breakfast a little underwhelming.

Lovely location and great beer garden. Beds were comfortable and clean. The main issue in the bedroom was the very low water pressure in the shower making it almost impossible to have a decent shower. The other issue was the slow service in the restaurant. It was busy when we first arrived so that was fair enough but even when it died down it was still very slow and we could see our drinks waiting at the bar but no one to bring them over until we asked. And breakfast again the service was slow, having to ask to be served on every occasion. Overall the hotel is good for the price with a lovely location and comfy beds so can’t complain too much but just a shame about the service.

The bar area, restaurant all very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Situated on the river with amazing views from the dining room. Also the opportunity to sit outside in this beautiful setting. Very nice breakfast and evening meals. On the downside. The room we had was not very soundproof there was a wardrobe across a door which meant next doors tv was very loud. Our tv had a very tired handset. There is no lift so be prepared to do quite a bit of walking up and down stairs and corridors.

Very dated hotel, needs a full deep clean, the best part is the river round the back, but when its sunny it becomes a water park! Full of kids running around. Most guests weren’t staying at the hotel but just using the river for watersport.

Uma decepção. Hotel antigo e mal conservado. As imagens no site não são atuais. Tem áreas abandonadas. A estufa, que aparece na primeira imagem está com vidros quebrados e cheia de mato. A vista é linda e o café da manhã bem bom apesar da máquina de café estar quebrada. Evitem

I stayed here for one night while walking Hadrian's Wall with my son.
The location is great with peaceful views of the river and bridge from the gardens and dining room. If I was doing the walk again, I would have a day's rest here.
Our room was quiet and what you would expect from a midrange hotel. The place was obviously popular with walkers.

The bedrooms were clean and pretty standard but little things needed attention like the sash window would open but not stay open, nowhere to hang a towel and the sliding door was difficult to operate and lock. The basin was tiny. The public rooms were not very clean and a duster could have been useful as could a mop on step edges. I don’t think the bar had been wiped overnight. Pretty basic but ok for a couple of nights.
Staff mostly friendly and some food ok, other things pretty poor with items missing from the description on the menu.

Clean room, good shower. Heated rack in bathroom is nice for drying hiking clothes. My room faced the river and had a wonderful view. The mattresses needed to be replaced. There was a clear divot in the middle of each.
There are no elevators and no bellmen but the man at reception very nicely brought my bag up for me.
Dinner in the restaurant was really good and the cafe across the street was also quite good for lunch. Didn’t eat breakfast at the hotel so don’t know if it was worth the price.
Hotel is right on Hadrians Wall trail and only a short distance from Chester’s Roman fort so if you’re hiking it’s a great location.

The only issue we had was that there is no shaver socket in our bathroom. We're not sure if this is a modern trend, but the inability to recharge electric toothbrushes and electric razors is awkward.

The check in was nice and easy and the receptionist was very friendly and informative, went to the room from the outside through a door at the side which was in much need of an update, as was the rest of the hotel, the room was basic but very clean had a view of the disused pool and overgrown garden, the view of the river however from the beer garden was very beautiful. The food was nice and staff friendly but It took forever to come and it seemed very disorganised, one hour forty five minutes for one course, had to ask for the dessert menu, I understand it had been a busy day but thought it was too long. We had a nice stay but maybe stay somewhere else in future.
