BOOK HOTEL 교토쿠조

3 star hotel treating their customers less than 1 star. It still baffles me that a hotel offering a washing machine/dryer and refuses to give change to use the machine. In fact so determined not to do so leave notes about it. I have been travelling for 5 weeks and I have never come across this! I can only see this as a way of the hotel trying to force their customers to ‘buy change’ for the machines. I had enough coins for the washing machine but not the dryer so left the heating on all day in my room to dry the clothes. What a false economy for the hotel. Maybe think of what would be helpful for people staying with you. The indifference, greed and customers having to use other methods (at an additional cost to you) seems ridiculous and not at all eco-friendly. What a shame! I had other things I would have liked to ask the hotel staff but after this it was very clear to me I was not valued and it wouldn’t be worth my time. The only thing I could do is write this review.

ローケーションが良かった。 京都駅まで徒歩10分ほど、九条駅までは徒歩3分ほど、バス停も徒歩3分でした。清水寺に行くバスが止まるバス停だったので、とても便利でした。

The place is new and modern, and the room was very clean and comfortable, almost big by Japanese standards. The location is in walking distance of the central station. However, the internet did not work the entire 3 days I was there. It was so bad I couldn't even send out emails. I reported it to the staff, and she said she will check later, but no improvement. I tried on two phones and my laptop, but nothing (so it definitely wasn't my devices). Having such terrible (pretty much non-existent) internet in Japan in 2026 is just unacceptable. Also, the staff hardly spoke any English and wasn't exactly friendly. When I left my key card to check-out I said goodbye, but the lady didn't even look up from the reception and didn't reply anything. I most certainly would not stay here again, which is a shame because the rooms are great.

Lobby has a nice environment for resting and reading. Location near subway, convenient to walk from East side of Kyoto station. Room and lobby clean and right temperature.

Room: clean and tidy, spacious for 2 people to stay, spacious bathroom, bed is a bit low (quite close to the floor), pillows are soft (not so supportive for the neck), nice and dark when you close all the curtain Staff: very friendly, can speak good English Amenities: No water or coffee supplied in room (tap water is drinkable), plenty of towels in bathroom with hair dryer, has a vending machine for drinks and laundromat on another floor, plenty of books for you to read (only in Japanese), there is a bar/cafe on the ground floor Location: 3 minutes walk from the nearest metro station (Kujo station), 9 minutes walk from Kyoto station, 2 convenience stores nearby * The building right next to the hotel is under some construction work when I visit. Noises are expected but bearable and this is definitely not the hotel’s fault (saw someone blaming the hotel for this).

チェックインの際の説明が丁寧で良かったです。部屋もきれいで落ち着いた雰囲気で申し分ありません。

Staff was helpful

Hotel aceptable precio-calidad. Limpio, funcional, en buen estado, con estilo, Pequeño como casi todos en Japón, aseo de la habitación solo si lo pides, la cama está casi a nivel de piso (estilo Japones) y me toco con colchón duro, qué al llegar a descansar después de caminar mucho lo resientes más. Relativamente cerca de la estación central de Kioto.

room was clean and size was ample since most hotel rooms in Japan are generally smaller. But for me I didn't know that the hotel was a book themed type of hotel since my son recommended from a search which their is no blaming anything here. But for a book lover this would be paradise because their are books everywhere in the lobby, hallways and your room but I mostly saw Japanese books but I'm sure there are English books somewhere.

Gute Lage, sauber, freundliches Personal, gut organisiert, alles was man braucht.

Great stay

広くて綺麗で良かった。が、いろいろ配置がイマイチだったのが残念。本は興味がそそられたが時間が無かったのも残念。

Good

部屋の設備自体は特に問題なし。 フロントスタッフの対応に問題あり。業務的なやり取りのみでホスピタリティは皆無。 部屋は開けた瞬間換気が出来てないようなにおいが気になった。 部屋に鏡がなく浴室にあるのみで不便。

本との出合いを提供するというコンセプトが素敵。丁寧さとフレンドリーさを両立したスタッフ対応も好感持てた。

Very cute

京都駅から徒歩10分で交通の便は良い。ユニットバスは結構広い。ベッドはかなり低いが気になる程ではない。部屋は全体的に清潔で、特に臭いは感じなかった。料金の安さ(約9000円)を考えるとまあまあ良いほう。 ただ、夜11:25頃、突然ノックの音がして、宿泊客が間違ったのだろうと返事もしなかったのに、いきなりドアを開けて従業員らしき女性が入って来た。風呂上がりでパンツ姿の裸で涼んでいたので、呆気に取られたのと裸という状況で声も出なかったが、その女性は表情一つ変えずに中まで来て、事務的に「カードキーの確認に来ました」と言い、机の上にあるカードキーを見て、「確認できたのでよろしいです」と言ってさっさと出て行った。ドアが開いた時の恐怖、それに勝手に侵入するのは従業員と言えども犯罪ではないか、そもそも何でそんな事をするのか等々、翌朝フロントに訴えたら「確認する」とのこと。しかし、預け荷物を取りに昼12時頃戻るもスタッフは居なく、連絡も取れない体制で確認できなかった。ホント、あれは何だったのか。

I loved the unique library book concept. Also the staff was very service-oriented. Also location is reasonably close to the Kyoto train station. Just a short taxi ride.
