A couple of issues. First, daily cleaning is a must for hotels, that is why we booked a hotel. This hotel offered a free bottle of water or laundry detergent if we opt not to have the cleaning done by 10pm the previous night. We didn't take the option. The next day, we we came across a note underneath our door saying that they wanted to clean the room but we had the “Do Not Disturb” sign. We had to let them know by 12 noon if we wanted the room cleaned or else they would not clean the room at all. The note was left at 11.45 AM under the door. We opened our door at 12.15 PM. Secondly, check out time is very early at 10 AM. When the check in time is 2 PM. For every hour extension, we can pay more than 1700 JPY per hour. I requested for an extension and was allowed until 12 noon only as the room was allegedly fully booked. I was still recovering from tonsilitis and needed a bit more time to rest in the room as the airport pick up was set at 2.30 PM. Reception called at 12.15 PM, and this was how the conversation went. Receptionist: Hello, your check out is at 12 PM, you need to come down now. Me: Sorry, but I think I need more time because... Receptionist: (curtly cut me short) No, no more extension, come down now.
Mind you, I am no beggar. I am paying for each hour of extension. You could have waited to listen to my reason but you chose not to. Indeed, a horrible end to leave Tokyo on such a bad note. Never again will I stay at this hotel.
