We stayed at Kaikoura Boutique Hotel one night, booked through Expedia Korean site . When we booked a "superior room" with a "partial sea view" and paid NZ 280 dollars, we thought we would be staying at one of the rooms in the main "hotel" building seen in the lovely photo in the advertisement. However the room we got when we checked in was located at the back of the hotel in one storey building. When we booked this room through Expedia, there was no description about the room explaining that our room would be situated at the back of the main "hotel" building. The courtyard room that we were given was not a hotel room, it was rather like a motel room. Strangely, when I checked this same hotel on the NZ expedia site, there was a description about this room being in the courtyard. I think the Korean language web site has left out this very important information. And why is the same room advertised more expensive in the Korean site compare to NZ web site? We would have never paid NZ 280 dollars had we known about the exact room type beforehand. I am going to bring up this issue with the Expedia Korea. This really is not a pleasant thing to do when you come back home after having a memorable holiday.

Great stay in a room with a balcony overlooking the bay. We saw 2 great sunrises and enjoyed 2 evenings on the balcony. The bed was comfortable and the room quite large. The bathroom was spacious, as was the shower.

A very pleasant stay, great location, very helpful staff. Got a great recommendation on where to have dinner, Donegal House. I generally don’t enjoy tourist towns but Kaikoura is an exception. When you book a room, check out its dimensions.

Small and not an exciting hotel. Kind of the point. Very quiet and the owners and staff a super friendly.

Close to Albatross tour. Not far to the walk around the peninsula. Breakfast great. Staff very very helpful. The accommodation worked fine.

We had a short stay, but Jonny and Deb were fantastic hosts. The room had a magnificent view, and was very clean and updated. If you are staying in Kaikōura, stay here!

Hotel was lovely! The hosts are lovely and super accommodating. Only issue is the internet isn’t stable for streaming. Otherwise, breakfast was superb and location is premium. Would stay again!

Very good breakfast, but pay at the hotel rather than a booking agency it's cheaper.

Have stayed several times in the smaller ground floor courtyard units, which are great but this time upgraded ourselves to a Junior Suite in the main building that was well worth doing. It not only provided more spacious accommodation but we really enjoyed using the private deck with sea views. New owners John & Deb very friendly and welcoming, so we hope to return in the near future.

Quaint little property. Cozy courtyard garden. The beach is right opposite. The staff were only available between like 9am to 6pm, but did share instructions for late check-in

Very cramped room around an outside courtyard. Nicely decorated. Very small area for coffee nook & refrigerator. Tiny bathroom. Kaikoura is beautiful & the hotel is across from the ocean, so nicely located.

Owners were wonderful. There is a bar onsite which offered nice wines and beers. Property location convenient and in a quiet area. Room and bathroom was very small - I wish I had opted for a larger one.

Fantastic place to stay, great location.

Quiet and peaceful location along the Kaikoura shoreline, right at the entrance to Tom's Walk. Parking is plentiful, with some dedicated parking spaces for guests off the main strip. Very beautiful inner courtyard for all of the rooms and also there is a cute bar and restaurant for guests.

There were 7 units that opened up to a beautiful courtyard outside with flowers and other plantings. It was quite charming and secluded. Across the street from the hotel was a walkway along the bay and a beautiful view. The units were cozy and well decorated.

This is a very nice spot in Kaikoura. Our room was small but comfortable for two people and had everything we needed. The host was so nice and helpful! Highly recommend!
