Loch Ness Gate House

Lovely clean , well appointed room. Looked like had been recently decorated/ created as everything brand new. Ideally situated in heart of Fort Augustus - right in the canal side- parking to rear if property - well laid out - spot on

Initial communication was poor. Room size was not feasible for 2 people and 2 suitcases. I had to rearrange most of the furniture to be able to open both cases. The peaked roof was a danger in the dark with such small space to walk in. Everything was loud (the doors, floors, fans, street noise, other guests). We could hear snoring from other rooms, every door that opened slammed or croaked, even the elctric kettles were audible from other rooms. The temperature was hard to manage. We could get open but not close them again. We never could get the heater or towel warmer to work. I had to ask for help with the windows and learned the complicated combination of keys, handles, buttons and pressure to be able to operate them. Then I asked for help with the heater and the staff, who doesn’t service the room, pressed a million buttons and then said "maybe it will come on". We had a 4 night stay but the room was only equipped with 1 day of in room supplies. When I asked for more I was told I could get it from the noisy cafe below, which had limited hours, and when I finally found someone by knocking on the staff doors they couldn't find the supplies. We left a day early due to the misery and asked for a one day refund and were refused. They cited their no refund policy, which to be fair, exists. The town is sleepy in winter but was still a good location for a base camp for day trips. Still I wouldnt stay here again.

The stay was okay, but felt overpriced compared to other placed I had been to in the same trip. Note that this is just a building with key boxes, you call a number and they give you the code, there's no staff on site. The one complaint was that the room was very cold, I had to turn on the heater, which was situated next to one of the beds, so had to move the bed for the heat to spread. It took a while for the room to heat up. The bathroom had a large towel heater that was also off, i tried to turn it on but it kept shutting off.

Our room was spacious and comfortable with views directly over the canal. Bathroom was well equipped with a fantastic shower. Free car park for residents and also a cafe downstairs.

This place is magical and so much nicer than what we imagined or were lead to believe by the advertising. This hotel is right on the alive Ness canal as it enters lake Koch was and right outside the hotel are boats and ships traversing the canals, it was magical!

Clean and modern property, easy access.

The room was newly decorated and all of the contents looked new. Everywhere was clean and comfortable. We hadnt realised that it was a collection of rooms rather than a hotel and we drove round a couple of times before finding the entrance and where to park. We felt it was overpriced but we had a comfortable stay.

There is no host on site and if you want to reach them use phone or text, neither of these options worked for me. I requested a twin room and got a double bed instead, awkward to say the least. the location is good, the room was clean. The host, which I called with assistance of my host and their phone at the previous location, was close to rude but did give me brief access information to use later in the day. Which I appreciated.

Very clean and quiet little place to stay on your travels

We stayed one night whilst walking the Great Glen Way. The room was clean and comfortable. Well located right next to the Caledonian Canal. The only minor issue was that options for breakfast in the area were limited until 9am.

Loved surrounding area, quiet evening but busy during the day, close to dining and great beds

Reservation made months ago with specific demand for a room with 2 beds When checking in, was given a room with one bed. When mentioned to the local manager downstairs, he answered it was that and nothing could be done now. I insisted, he got mad and aggressive even threatening to cancel my room and denying me access. We then discussed the issue calmly, he made a phone call and handed me the key to readily available room with 2 beds!!! He had previously mentioned there was no rooms available about 2 minutes earlier.

You have to walk past a long line of open garbage bins to get to the back door entry to the hotel. There is an excellent restaurant for breakfast right downstairs. Opens at 9am though which seems rather late for early risers.

Great property, poor details on where directions and where to park. We ended up parking on the road and having to walk in past about 6 dumpsters that smelt badly.
