We only stayed a short time but everything was great so much so that I would very much like to come and stay again if you still allow dogs. Would it be possible to book a single room for the night of the 17 July. Kind regards Jill White

The staff at check in were really welcoming, the check in process was quick and easy. The room on the 3rd floor was nicely decorated, comfy bed and good shower. Would definitely stay again.

This is easily the best hotel in Portsmouth- best location, easy included parking out front on. there own grounds. Large, traditional old hotel, but well kept. 24 hour bar for residents. Upmarket restaurant. One major drawback - no aircon in the bedrooms or the hallways stairs etc.: a big problem if you are there during a heat wave -36! - as I was. I would still book again though, but only in cooler weather.

I stayed just for one night, but really liked it. Comfortable rooms, helpful staff, good location and a great breakfast. Definitely my go to for staying in Portsmouth.

Not a great entry way from the carpark, up the sweeping staircase carrying luggage then a fight to get the door open. A beautiful hotel especially the grand vestibule. Great reception staff efficient and friendly. We were in room 359, top floor, (splendid view) which was particularly hot during the May heatwave but room fans were provided. The beautifully refurbished bathroom however was the worst layout we've ever experienced. The door into the generous sized room, clashed with the rather small shower cubicle, which had nowhere to put shower toiletries except the floor. The only other storage area was a small glass shelf over the hand basin in exactly the right forehead cracking position. The strangest was the double toilet roll holder, which was placed just above the toilet cistern thus completely out of reach just when it was needed, unless you are a contortionist. The breakfast serving staff told us that they were tired and they were all obviously fed up, demoralised even, but the breakfast was great.

Always clean and reception staff helpful. There was a wedding so a bit noisy and better to have been situated in rooms further away from the party but rooms comfortable and clean

Room was clean, but a little smelly after running the tap. Wardrobe was ridiculously small, like an armoir rather than a wardrobe. My dresses didn’t fit. Luckily radiator in bedroom was adjustable as it was very warm. Heaps of tea and coffee but we had to pop our fresh milk onto the windowsill outside as no fridge in room. Staff were excellent Slept well despite what appeared to be someone playing (badly) the last post on a cornet, down the hall.

3rd floor room was too warm although heating was off and has no air conditioning

Loved this place. I was visiting from Canada and really appreciated the beauty and architecture of this Hotel. My room was lovely. The breakfasts were fantastic and the staff were much appreciated for the great service.

Clean room, friendly staff and great location. Would definitely stay here again.

Lovely sized room with lots of complementary goods, helpful friendly staff and a great seafront location

The hotel is lovely, all the staff we interacted with were helpful. The room was as described and had everything we needed for our stay. I would have given it 5 stars had there not been a wedding on which meant we could not use the bar before going out for dinner as it was full as well as the reception are and the music played late and could be heard in the rooms causing delays in sleeping.

The staff were friendly. The room was clean with view of the seafront was lovely. The hotel is dated classic hotel with a lovely ambience.
