The spa was wonderful

What a lovely hotel, rooms are to a high standard and breakfast is delicious.

The Spa wasnt available, but they gave out complimentary vouchers for the Thermae Spa across the road. The room and the hotel was fabulous. The staff were very kind, and always ready to assist. A quality hotel.

Spa was amazing. Very central ,very near shops and restaurants.

What a wonderful stay in The Townhouse - from the impeccable staff team to the truly impressive spa facility, a real memory to cherish.

Sparkling clean rooms, housekeeping took the initiatives setting up extra double bed in the 2 bedroom suites which my husband greatly appreciate as it was by the window. The bathtub was a highlight as both my sons loves to soak in it. The breakfast was a little disappointed as there was only drinks, fruits, bread, pastries, cheese and salad spread on the counter while we were allowed to order only 1 customised plate of breakfast for each pax. Receptions and Concierge staffs were superb friendly and warm making us felt right at home.

Despite a problem with my room upgrade request being cancelled, I can confirm the staff, room, service and location was excellent Stewart from Concierge was very helpful so a real attribute to the hotel.

Staff were fantastic, room and spa were lovely (and my massage was fantastic). We had a very nice and relaxing stay there.

Dated room facilities; shower one old showerhead with no handheld. This for a modern day hotel, especially a suite is poor and doesn’t reflect value. Breakfast choice was limited, free spa periods were overcrowded. Gym had old limited equipment and cobwebs in the corners and windows.

This is written with regret. I had given the hotel a chance to put this right. All I wanted was a simple apology, they failed to do that. I would have almost certainly returned given a simple apology. Nicest hotel I have stayed at in a long time. Staff were flawless and it is a shame this review can not reflect that in stars. The breakfast made my partner very unwell, it was not just of poor quality but not safe. Hotel is lovely but avoid any food there. The second star is saved by the outstanding front desk and concierge team. Otherwise it would be 1-star. At £500+ for the night and £40+ PP for breakfast, I had high hopes only to be left searching for a cafe after. 20% of the price and 10x the quality.

Staff provided us with a lovely card and complimentary wine towards our 50th birthday. Made our stay very special, room was spotless and very comfortable, had a wonderful relaxing stay.

Our stay at The Gainsborough Bath Spa was a mix of positives and disappointments. Check-in was pleasant, and the concierge team was outstanding — extremely helpful with luggage, car parking and providing information about the city. However, the overall experience did not meet true 5-star expectations. First, I was asked to choose breakfast times before check-in was even complete, which felt unnecessary and rigid, especially as we arrived in the morning and the restaurant was virtually empty. Second, the room heating appeared fixed at around 20.9°C. Fine for sleeping, but too cold to relax in the room. Housekeeping attended but could not resolve the issue and said maintenance would follow up. Unfortunately, no one from maintenance came and the problem was never fixed. Third, it was not made clear at booking that spa access for hotel guests is limited to 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening, otherwise an additional £70 per person is charged. For a luxury hotel, this felt like penny-pinching rather than premium service. Finally, on checkout the front desk effectively added £20 for “tips”. I have never seen this practice and it left a bad impression — tips should be discretionary and earned, not added without consultation. A luxury hotel should feel effortless, transparent and guest-focused. Unfortunately, this stay felt overly restricted and transactional — not the 5-star experience the price and branding suggest.

Perfect stay!

Amazing room and amenities! Guest can use the spa during certain hours and it was super nice and not too crowded. Beds were so comfortable. Only negative was the room was super hard to find and had to go up and down a lot of stairs to get to it.

Excellent room, great parking, excellent staff.
