Perhaps a bit small, but very clean, well maintained and reasonably priced Onsen Ryokan in Gora.
It is around 15 minutes walk from Gora station, but you need to walk up a very steep hill, so I would recommend taking a taxi or asking the Ryokan to arrange a pick-up upon arrival.
All Ryokan staff speaks good English and were very kind and helpful (some of them were actually Taiwanese). It was great that the guest can charter the outdoor Onsen all to them selves for half an hour, free of charge. But the public Onsen was also nice.
The food was served at the restaurant located on the lobby floor. Both dinner and breakfast were very enjoyable. The dishes were Japanese with a little fusion of western flavors. So it was not exactly the traditional 'Kaiseki-ryori', but still very tasty. The staff kindly prepared Kids Meal for my 4 year old girl too.
After we finished dinner, the beds were already set up by the Ryokan staff. The Japanese called this 'Futon' and it was a very pleasant surprise.
I would recommend this Ryokan, especially to Western travelers who are not so familiar traditional Japanese foods and Ryokan. My family and I surely enjoyed this stay, and would consider visiting here again on our next vacation in Japan.
