I enjoyed my stay. The hotel was clean, and it had basic tea coffee, kettle, water and wash lotion etc. No lift, which i did find hard as i have health condition. The signage could be improved, as its not obvious that the lounge is the front door. The main sign for the hotel is in front of two grey doors, whuch apparently are for the laundry! I didn't have breakfast as didnt feel well. I would stay again, it was close to theatre.

Gaining entry and checking in eas was more complicated than it needed to be. The walls in my bedroom were paper thin and I could here absolutely every thing from the room next door, the squeak in the mattress everyone the occupant turned over, the headboard banging against the wall, every movement that was made. To top it off I was looking forward to eating in the property only to discover that the chef had gone AWOL. The best thing about my stay was I was only there for 1 night

Heating in the initial room was not able to be turned on. No equivalent room was available. I was told I would have to pay for an upgrade or stay in a freezing cold room. Finally, 2 hours later, I was advised I would be moved to another room at no additional cost. This should have been athe immediate and unquestioning solution. Very disappointing. Breakfast was also very disappointing. The most limited (and prepackaged, so not fresh) range for breakfast I have ever encountered in extensive travels.

The property has changed hands quite recently and many of the features mentioned in older reviews are no longer available. The hotel was rated as "Wonderful". It's ok at best. Everything feels rationed eg we were asked if we'd like one slice of toast or two. There was only one biscuit in the room . The rest were locked up and unavailable without management authorisation. The hotel's own website is wildly inaccurate - it claims sea views, a pool and gymn at a hotel in Colchester - many miles from the coast with no leisure facilities. The staff tried really hard to make our stay better but too many hospitality basics were missing

Kleine kamer met basis faciliteiten uitgerust. Badkamer was niet goed schoon, maar dit werd na constatering snel door het personeel hersteld. Ontbijtmogelijkheid bij de accommodatie is handig.

Really nice hotel - cozy comfortable room. However, the website says sea views, outdoor pool, spa, mini bar and dressing gowns. Not sure where they were hiding but didn’t find any of them.

All the staff we saw were warm and friendly and very efficient. Unfortunately the shower wouldn't get hot.

Unfortunately the window was on the front and wouldn’t shut properly leading to a noisy nights sleep.

Small but adequate & clean room. V good cooked breakfast. Hotel frontage & reception clean & bright.

It was like the walls were made with paper. I could hear people in other rooms, walking down the corridor and even someone being sick. The noise from the road was also let in by the very old windows. I get that it is probably a listed building, but in terms of a good rest, it failed to deliver.

Seeing a 9.2 rating on Expedia set a very improper expectation (Ritz and Hilton level quality) as the reality was much different. Staff were friendly and location was good but that’s about where the positives end. The single rooms are INCREDIBLY small, even for European standards (expect something like a dorm or hostel). Heat was intermittent. Busy street so it quite loud through the evening. No real desk or work station. Backpacking across the UK? This is likely fine Travelling for Business? No way

The hotel was well-situated close to town. Staff were friendly. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. However, the weather was very cold, and the heater didn't seem to work - I should have asked. The worst drawback, was that the front entry system was very difficult to access, and needs upgrading asap.
