The welcome was good with friendly staff. The room was clean and tidy. The only downsides, if I’m being picky, are that the bed was really soft and there are no blackout curtains. Not the end of the world, but I woke very early on a sunny morning.

Dog friendly, helpful staff great for an overnight break on a long journey ( both ways!) Easy access from the M6 making a break from motorway driving. Penkridge is a really interesting place to stay and take a break on a long journey. Very welcoming villager and quiet away from the main road. However the pub is a little noisy at night ( we stayed on a hot summers night!)

We had another excellent stay, there was a small maintenance discrepancy but Sara, the assistant manager, dealt with the issue in a highly professional manner and to our satisfaction. The staff were excellent, as always, and parking dinner and breakfast were first rate, if a little on the large side! Would certainly stay again.

Breakfast was excellent, staff helpful and friendly. The superior double room was much nicer than the standard double and worth paying the small extra amount for. We had our 2 dogs and hotel is very dog friendly although the £25 per dog per night was a bit steep. Hotel is well located right in the middle of Penkridge, Saturday market is brilliant. We would return.

Check-in was great and the family room we booked was clean and a good size. I removed some stars based on a couple of things. The service, mostly 20 somethings, didn’t come with much of a smile which seems normal these days unless they are well trained by the older generation who realise what service means. We had a drink order at dinner pineapple and lemonade. We were brought a lemonade. This was pointed out at which point the waitress went away and came back with a lemonade again just in a different glass! Also, the fish in the fish and chips had a section that was not fully cooked.

The room was ok. it was very hot but it had a fan which without was unbearable to sleep even with the window open and the road traffic. Air conditioning would be nice. Ironing board with no iron not very helpful. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was ok.

Staff were excellent but hadn’t been briefed properly. Breakfast arrangements were nor great & unless you were having a cooked breakfast the choice was very poor even at a basic level, ended up using our own out of the car! Also had an evening meal in the restaurant which had a good choice on the menu but the the meal didn’t come up to scratch especially for the price. An establishment that was more form over function.

The waitress who served breakfast was lovely and dealt with the powercut situation brilliantly. Breakfast was delicious. Thanks for a lovely stay and we will be back when we are in the area next.

Easy parking, very helpful staff, lovely character hotel, lovely clean, comfortable bedroom, bathroom clean, possibly ready for bit of TLC. Couldn’t master TV but probably my fault. Amazing breakfast, look forward to another visit.

Very nice first impressions met by friendly helpful staff, room as you would expect, only downside was breakfast continental and full English said to be included, we arrived during normal breakfast time several other guests waiting - very slow service- continental was cereals only, wasn’t available to help yourself until waitress brought table in with juice and milk, cooked breakfast to order- which was very slow coming almost an hour taken up waiting order/get and eat breakfast with only 8 - 10 guests breakfasting so slightly let the side down in this department

Only used the bedroom, the bar looked OK but did not try it. I was ready to dine early, but not when the dining area was full of small children although all were seated. I discovered the external 'beer garden' upon my return from dining out, looked clean, tidy and popular at 19-30. My bedroom was on the top floor of four and no assistance offered to carry bag. it was adequate and modern although a new carpet would not go amiss. No bedside table, just a chair with a bedside lamp on it, had to use it to put my glasses, drink and phone. Bed and bedding superb with a modern bathroom and accessible shower. Car parking OK but was full when I arrived ... diners! Room was 'at the back' so no noise from traffic and high enough not to hear the promised 'live music' but the external cooling system did make some noise outside the bedroom window but I had had a long journey so was asleep quickly and not disturbed! did not dine in but found a selection of small eating establishments that looked nice inside but shabby outside. The association with Stafford is misleading, I stayed in Penkridge and Stafford town is about 8 miles north

Nice recently decorated room in a quality pub with excellent decor. Really nice food as well in the pub restaurant. I will definitely stay here again if in the area so much nicer than a big hotel. Friendly staff too in the evening and morning.

The room was good, although the shower was a little cramped because of the low ceiling. The staff were all nice girls, but could have been a little more welcoming and remember to ask if we needed any sauces or other condiments with our dinner and breakfast

Mattress on Bed not the most comfortable . Couldn’t understand how the tv worked to get normal channels . so instructions would’ve helpful . ( subtitles didn’t seem available on bbc player which we needed as we are both hearing impaired ) But everything else was ok as we were only staying for one night and the staff are helpful on check in and our room was ready early
