The room overall was clean but the bathroom had a stained toilet and rust marks on the bath. I would think when the room had been refurbished in the 1990’s it had been done to a very high standard. The views from the room were spectacular The reception staff were helpful, friendly and informative. The breakfast was very underwhelming, with very little fresh fruit. I was concerned that the milk, butter and yogurt, tinned fruit etc. although had been standing in the sun and was warm was covered and placed back in the fridge at the end of service, I would assume ready to be topped up the following day. I think with very little extra expense the continental breakfast could be improved with some form of chiller to keep dairy products cool, more fresh fruit and bread choices. The hotel building along with its history was fascinating although the furnishings definitely needed upgrading to be more in keeping with the history of the house. Again with a little more imagination the public rooms could be made more welcoming and encourage people to use them and spend more money in the bar. Overall I would say improvements are being made to upgrade rooms along with general repairs but an awful lot needs to be done to bring the hotel up to standard. It could be a fantastic place to stay even with just a few simple improvements, it just feels very tired.
