Besides being famous for its vast green tea plantations and cool year round climate, Cameron Highlands in the state of Pahang, Malaysia, also boasts another natural attraction: its waterfalls. Hidden among the lush tropical mountain forests, the waterfalls of Cameron Highlands offer hidden gems that make for the perfect escape when the sun is beating down.

For those looking to explore the Cameron Highlands Waterfalls, there are several options to include in your itinerary. These include Robinson Falls, Parit Falls, and others. Let’s find out more about the waterfalls in the Cameron Highlands.

Discover the best waterfalls in the Cameron Highlands, from Lata Iskandar to Robinson Falls.

1. Lata Iskandar Waterfall

Located about 25 kilometers before the town of Ringlet along Federal Route 59 from Tapah, Lata Iskandar is the most magnificent waterfall in the area, with water cascading from a height of about 25 meters over several tiers of granite rocks before flowing into a natural pool at the bottom.

This waterfall is a favorite because it’s located right off the main road, so visitors can pull over immediately without having to hike at all. The surrounding area is also filled with stalls run by locals selling handicrafts, local produce, and fresh tropical fruits.

2. Robinson Waterfall

Located not far from the town of Tanah Rata, Robinson Falls can be reached via Trail 9, one of the most popular and maintained forest hiking trails in Cameron Highlands, with a walking time of about 15-20 minutes from the trailhead.

This waterfall flows down steep hillsides amid serene views of moss covered forests. However, swimming here is not recommended due to the strong current, especially after it rains.

3. Parit Waterfall

Located in the Taman Sedia recreational forest area near Tanah Rata, Parit Falls is the most family-friendly option. Why? Because the path to the location is a paved trail and takes only about 10 minutes to walk. Some people also refer to it as Thompson Falls. Facilities such as gazebos, picnic tables, restrooms, and a children’s play area are available around this waterfall, making it an ideal destination for a family picnic while enjoying the forest atmosphere.

4. Lubuk Timah Hot Springs & Waterfall

Located along the Simpang Pulai route to Cameron Highlands, this site offers a unique combination of an artificial waterfall and natural hot springs along the riverbank. These pools are remnants of a former tin mining area from the early 20th century. Because the river current is quite strong, visitors are advised to keep a close eye on children and those who are not strong swimmers.

5. Sungai Palas Waterfall

Sungai Palas Waterfall, located not far from the iconic BOH Sungai Palas Tea Garden, offers a captivating blend of nature and plantation scenery. This small, tranquil waterfall flows gracefully among the tea trees and is accessible via a short walk from the main road or the tea garden’s central parking area. Although not suitable for swimming, this spot is perfect for those looking to soak in the fresh natural atmosphere and snap stunning photos, especially since the view is most breathtaking when it blends with the surrounding green expanse of the tea plantation.

How to Get to Cameron Highlands

Transportation to Cameron Highlands can be tailored to the type of vehicle and route you prefer:

By Private Vehicle

Via Tapah (From Kuala Lumpur / Southbound): Take the main toll road to the Tapah exit, then continue uphill along the mountainous Federal Route 59. This is a classic route, but the road is steep, relatively narrow, and winding.
Via Simpang Pulai (From Ipoh / Northbound): Take the Simpang Pulai exit from Ipoh. This route passes through the Blue Valley area and the agricultural zone in the northern part of the Cameron Highlands. The road is generally wider and has fewer sharp curves compared to the Tapah route, making it more comfortable for drivers.

Using Public Transportation

Intercity Buses: For public transportation users, buses operate regularly from the Southern Integrated Terminal (TBS) in Kuala Lumpur directly to Tanah Rata (the public transportation hub in the Cameron Highlands).
Local Transportation: Upon arrival at the Tanah Rata Terminal, you can continue your journey by local taxi or ride-hailing services (such as Grab, which operates extensively in the area from Tanah Rata to Brinchang) to reach tourist destinations and waterfalls.

Tips for Visiting the Cameron Highlands Waterfalls

Before you go, there are a few things you should keep in mind to ensure a more comfortable trip.

Check the weather before trekking

Rain can make forest trails slippery. Waterfalls may also experience increased flow after rain, so don’t force yourself to swim or approach waterways when conditions are unsafe.

Wear appropriate footwear

For Robinson Falls and other waterfall trails, choose shoes with good traction. Open-toed sandals may feel comfortable in the city, but they’re not ideal for muddy and rocky trails.

Bring a light jacket

Cameron Highlands has cooler temperatures than lowland areas. If you’re trekking early in the morning, a light jacket can make the trip more comfortable.

Don’t pack too much

A light backpack is easier to carry on forest trails. Bring drinking water, snacks, your phone, a power bank, and only the personal items you truly need.
