Scoot is the low-cost airline of the Singapore Airlines Group, flying under IATA code TR and ICAO code TGW from its single hub at Singapore Changi Airport. Singapore Airlines is its parent company and full owner. Many travellers simply search for "Scoot airlines", and the brand is built around one idea: a simple base fare, with the freedom to add only the extras you need.
What sets Scoot apart from most budget carriers is range. Alongside short regional hops on Airbus and Embraer jets, it flies Boeing 787 Dreamliners on long sectors to Australia, North Asia and Europe. That means a single airline can take you from a quick trip across Southeast Asia to an overnight flight to Athens, all connecting through Changi.
Every Scoot flight in Singapore departs from Changi Airport Terminal 1. Because the network is built around that one hub, connections through Singapore are a big part of how people use the airline. If your flights sit on a single booking itinerary, checked bags are tagged through to your final destination, so you don't need to collect and re-check them at Changi.
This guide brings together what you need before flying: the fleet, the main routes, the baggage rules for each fare, check-in times, cabin options and the change and refund rules. It closes with practical steps for comparing and booking Scoot flights on Traveloka.
The Singapore Airlines Group set up Scoot in 2011 to compete in the fast-growing market for budget travel on medium- and long-haul routes. Rather than copying the short-haul model used by most low-cost airlines in the region, Scoot was designed from the start to fly longer distances with wide-body aircraft.
Its first flight took off on 4 June 2012, from Singapore to Sydney. The early fleet was made up of Boeing 777-200 aircraft taken over from the parent airline. Over the following years those jets were replaced by Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which became the backbone of the long-haul network.
The biggest change in the airline's history came in July 2017. That month, sister carrier Tigerair Singapore was merged into Scoot. The combined airline kept the Scoot name and livery but took over Tigerair's air operator's certificate. This is why Scoot's IATA code changed from TZ to TR, and why its ICAO code is TGW.
The merger gave Scoot a single network that mixed Tigerair's short-haul Airbus routes with its own long-haul Dreamliner flying. In June 2017 it also opened its first route to Europe, linking Singapore with Athens. Later, in 2024, it added Embraer E190-E2 jets to serve smaller regional cities where a larger aircraft would be too big.
Scoot is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. It is not a member of an airline alliance. Instead, it works with partner airlines through interline agreements, the most important being its parent. On an interline journey with Singapore Airlines booked on one itinerary, you check in once to your final destination and connect at Changi without passing through immigration or collecting your bags.
Frequent flyers are looked after by KrisFlyer, the Singapore Airlines loyalty programme. Scoot does not run a separate scheme of its own. KrisFlyer members can earn miles on Scoot flights, and Scoot flying also earns Elite miles that count towards the Elite Silver and Elite Gold tiers.
Scoot flies three families of aircraft. Each one has a clear job in the network, so the plane you board says a lot about the kind of trip you are taking.
The Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners handle Scoot's long-haul and busier medium-haul routes, including flights to Australia, Japan, Korea and Europe. They are the only Scoot aircraft with two cabins: Economy and the premium ScootPlus cabin. They are also the aircraft that carry inflight Wi-Fi.
The Dreamliner is built from composite materials, which allows a more comfortable cabin pressure and higher humidity than older jets. Passengers also notice the larger windows with electronic dimming. On a flight of eight hours or more, those details make a real difference to how you feel when you land.
Short and medium regional routes use the Airbus A320ceo, A320neo and A321neo. All three are set up in a single Economy class. The A320neo seats 186 passengers and the A321neo seats 236. The neo models use newer engines that burn noticeably less fuel than the older generation, which also cuts emissions on each flight.
The Embraer E190-E2 is the smallest jet in the fleet. It has a 2-2 seating layout, so every passenger gets either a window or an aisle seat, with no middle seat at all. Scoot uses it on thinner regional routes, where it can offer a direct flight that would not fill a larger aircraft.
Check-in times differ by aircraft type, as explained in the check-in guide below. It is worth checking which aircraft your flight uses when you book, so you know when the counter opens.
Every Scoot route touches Singapore. The network reaches across Southeast Asia, North Asia, South Asia, Australia and parts of Europe and the Middle East. Here are some of the routes travellers book most often, each with its own page on Traveloka.
Many travellers combine two Scoot flights through Changi, such as Sydney to Bangkok or Perth to Osaka. When both flights are on one booking, your checked baggage is transferred for you. If you book two separate tickets, you must clear immigration, collect your bags and check in again, so allow plenty of time between flights.
Scoot sells its Economy seats as four fare types: Basic, Value, Flex and ScootPlus. The fare you choose decides how much baggage you can bring. Knowing the rules before you pack avoids unexpected fees at the airport.
Economy travellers can buy a checked allowance from 20 kg up to 40 kg. ScootPlus passengers can top up their 30 kg allowance to 40 kg. A fee applies to each upgrade, and it varies by route. Whatever allowance you hold, no single bag may weigh more than 32 kg, and a bag should not measure more than 158 cm when its length, width and height are added together.
Your allowance is a total weight, not a number of bags. That makes it easy to split your belongings across two lighter bags instead of one heavy one. Sports equipment such as golf clubs or a bicycle also counts towards the same allowance, so include it when you choose your baggage at booking.
An infant who travels on an adult's lap does not get a cabin or checked baggage allowance of their own. Pack the baby's things within the accompanying adult's allowance, or add extra checked baggage when you book.
Scoot follows international aviation security rules. Power banks, spare lithium batteries and e-cigarettes must go in your cabin baggage, never in checked bags. Liquids in your cabin bag must be in containers of 100 ml or less, packed together in one clear resealable bag.
Scoot offers three ways to check in: online, at a self-service kiosk where available, and at the airport counter. Search interest in "Scoot check in" is high, so here are the times that matter.
Web and mobile check-in opens 48 hours before departure and closes 1.5 hours before. Once you are checked in, you can save a mobile boarding pass on your phone on eligible flights. If you only have cabin baggage and your boarding pass is valid, you can head straight to security.
A booking made through Traveloka can still check in online. Go to the Scoot check-in page and enter your Scoot booking reference and last name, both shown in your confirmation email.
Online check-in is not available for every booking. You will need to check in at the counter if you are:
At Changi Airport, all Scoot flights use Terminal 1. Staff at the counter check your travel documents, print your boarding pass and take your checked bags. Even if you have checked in online, you still need to visit the counter or bag drop if you have checked baggage.
Aim to arrive early enough to finish check-in well before the counter closes. Lines get longer around school holidays and long weekends, and the 60-minute cut-off is strictly applied.
Scoot has two cabins. Economy is on every aircraft, while ScootPlus is only on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Economy is where most passengers fly, and the fare you pick shapes the experience. Basic gives you a seat and 10 kg of cabin baggage, with everything else added as you need it. Value adds 20 kg of checked baggage and seat selection. Flex adds flight changes on top of that.
If you want more room, emergency exit seats come with extra legroom for an added fee. They have their own conditions, since passengers in those rows must be willing and able to help in an emergency.
ScootPlus is Scoot's premium cabin. It is not a lie-flat business class, but it is a clear step up from Economy. The plush leather seats are 18.5 to 19.5 inches wide, with a 38-inch seat pitch and more recline. Your fare includes:
Meals are not included in Basic, Value or Flex fares. You can pre-order a hot meal before you fly or buy food and drinks on board. Pre-ordering is the safer choice on long flights, since popular dishes can sell out once the cart starts moving.
Wi-Fi is available on Scoot's Boeing 787 Dreamliners. It is sold as data plans, from a small 20 MB plan up to a 1 GB plan, so your access lasts until the data runs out rather than for a set time. You can buy a plan when you book or through Manage My Booking up to 2 hours before departure. On Airbus and Embraer flights, download your films and music before you leave home.
Scoot treats guests aged 12 to 17 who fly without an adult as unaccompanied minors. They can travel with prior arrangement for the Unaccompanied Minor Service, which needs a completed request form. Children under 12 cannot fly alone on Scoot and must travel with a guest aged 18 or over.
Scoot does not carry pets or other live animals, in the cabin or in the hold. The one exception is a service dog travelling with a guest who has a visual or hearing impairment. You must give notice at booking or at least 48 hours before departure, whichever is earlier, and bring the right entry approvals for your destination. A maximum of two assistance animals can travel on each flight.
Guests with reduced mobility, visual or hearing impairments or medical needs can request assistance from Scoot. Because these guests cannot check in online, plan to use the airport counter, and arrange support with the airline well before your flight.
Scoot's fare rules are strict, so it is worth reading them before you book.
You can change the date or time of your flight, or the passenger's name, up to 4 hours before departure. A change fee applies, plus any difference in fare. You cannot change the origin or destination of a booking. If your booking includes a flight operated by a partner airline, date, time and name changes are not possible for any flight in that booking.
The Flex fare includes flight changes, which suits travellers whose plans may move. Scoot also sells optional flexibility add-ons, such as Change Your Flight and Cancel Your Trip, which add more freedom to a booking.
Under Scoot's standard fare rules, cancellations, refunds and credits are not permitted. If you might need to cancel, consider the Cancel Your Trip add-on, which can be bought at booking or within 24 hours afterwards.
If you booked your Scoot flight on Traveloka, start any change from My Booking in the Traveloka app or website. You will see the options your fare allows and any amount to pay before you confirm. For disruptions caused by the airline, such as a cancelled or heavily delayed flight, contact Traveloka customer service with your booking details so the team can help you with the options Scoot offers.
Traveloka lets you compare Scoot flights with other airlines on the same route in one search. You can filter by departure time, duration and number of stops, then sort the results to find the flight that fits your plans.
During booking you can add the extras Scoot sells, such as checked baggage, seats and meals, so your whole trip is set up in one place. Your e-ticket arrives by email and in the Traveloka app as soon as payment is confirmed.
After you book, My Booking keeps your itinerary, booking reference and add-ons together. That is useful when you check in online, since you need the booking reference and last name. Traveloka customer service is available 24/7 if you need help with a change or a question about your trip.
You can also pair your flight with a hotel, airport transfer or activity on the same app. That keeps the full trip, from Changi connection to your stay at the destination, in one account.
A few simple habits can lower the cost of a Scoot trip.
