Our choice of the Hotel Basilica was inspired. The hotel is a heritage hotel, formally the family home of one of the heroes of the independence struggle of Ecuador. The staff on arrival were throughout ,welcoming,hugely helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. The location is stunning in the midst of the UNESCO Heritage old city of Quito. Many of the most important sites in the city are easily accessible by foot from the Hotel. The Hotel arranged extremely good pick up from the airport and drop off at the airport and departure. our room was immaculately clean and cleaned regularly with example with example supplies of coffee 24 hours available.

The hotel staff were amazing. So kind and helpful. The place is beautiful and well kept. Breakfast had fresh fruit, great coffee, eggs and different types of bread each day we were there. The shuttle service was super convenient and the driver was extremely friendly. When I come back to Quito this will be my first choice.

Courteous and helpful staff. Staff does not speak English, however. This was not a problem for us since we could speak a little Spanish and could rely on Google translate. Staff was especially kind and pleasant.

The location of this hotel was perfect for all the exploring we did in Quito. Miriam was so helpful, organizing transportation to and from the airport and giving a full description of the walking sites near by. The breakfast was really tasty and made for a great start to our day.

The Hotel Basilica is great! It’s in an old and well-preserved building with courtyards, comfortable public spaces and lots of plants and art. It’s only a few minutes walk from all of the main sights of colonial Quito. The best part of Hotel Basilica is the staff. From beginning to end, we were greeted by name, given advice on places to go and treated like family members. Gracias Hotel Basilica!

Room was lovely and clean and had a very large bathroom as well. Very well appointed in keeping with the theme of a Basilica .

Lots of difficulty here. The room was nice, though no exterior windows. You have to check in before midnight, and the host locks you in from 9:00 PM to 6:30 AM each night (yes, really) due to what she described as dangerous streets. On our 10:30 check in, after almost 12 hours of travel, she fought vociferously with us because we asked to remain on the sidewalk for five minutes to smoke a cigarrete. Her helpers, two young Quechua girls, were fantastic and friendly, though we felt sorry that they had to work for the older lady. We left unceremoniuly the next day, staying only one night of the six we paid in advance for, with the host claiming ignorance on refund policy. It was all a costly mistake.

I personally don't like the idea that you have to leave your key with the front desk when you leave the building. Nor do I like that I had to get someone to buzz me out when I left. The room we had didn't have any window to outside. The door to our room was window for the top half. This required a curtain to be closed between the door and the room. Otherwise anyone going down the hall had a clear view of what was in the room. The location was good for exploring Old Town Quito. It is a very old building with decor that is really complimentary to the style. We arranged to be picked up at the airport and were pleased with that service. The taxi they arranged to take us back to the airport arrived on time.

I stayed for 2 nights and had a great stay. The hotel was very clean and the staff was vey helpful. I had the added benefit of being there for Carnival, and the hotel was right in the middle of the action.

Clean room, spacious bathroom and great location but the best thing by far are the owners and the people that work there. They were so kind, nice and helpful, often thinking of things before I could. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Quito. Lovely city, even lovelier people.

Located in the historical part of Quito, walking distance from the Basilica del Voto Nacional, this hotel is beautiful! The rooms are always impeccably clean. Good if you can keep up with the rules and attitude of Management.
Here are big disappointments:
- We stayed there for New Year's Eve and came back to the hotel at 12:50 am. You have to wait for someone to open the entrance door for you. When the manager opened, I said "good evening, Happy New Year!". She replied, with a grumpy voice: "good morning".
- Roger had a bad nosebleed the day of check out and had to use a large towel and a small one as we were heading to the clinic. We were charged $20 for them.
My opinion is that this hotel would always be full if the guests felt welcome after the initial tour!
