Shower didn't work

We arrived on a Sunday and were advised that there was no restaurant, bar or food service which was disappointing as options outside the hotel were limited.

Limited choices for hotels in Hereford, and this one is centrally located. Have stayed several times and is fine. Is very old fashioned (think physical keys attached to a big wooden keyring rather than key cards) and rooms are long overdue refurbishment - comfortable enough but very old fashioned furniture, no fridge, tiny TV, no USB outlets and plugs located in inconvenient places. Stayed here during the recent heatwave and no air conditioning! There were two fans in the room which were welcomed but really only moved around the warm air and had a very uncomfortable night's sleep.

There's no air-conditioning in this hotel (it's a listed building), but in the current heatwave the room was unbearably hot. Room 245 had only 1 window, this was quite stiff and awkward to open/close... But even open did little to alleviate the heat, this built up during the day even with curtains closed (Broken curtain pole!) and room temp must have been easily pushing 40°C The bathroom was even worse, with zero windows or ventilation it was a sauna, all trips in their were brief and the only way to dry after a shower was to exit into the heat of the bedroom, which after the bathroom felt momentarily cooler. There was a fan, but it only succeeded in gently wafting around the hot air. To add to this the hairdryer cut out on my wife, it overheated as the filter at the rear was clogged, evidently never cleaned (I managed to rectify this myself) and to rub salt into the wound we returned to our room to watch the post midnight extra time in the England match on TV, (we were so tired after the previous nights fitful sleep in the sweating heat), only to find that the TV has no signal....I gave up. The staff were pleasant and friendly, and able to provide ice and chilled water, but this did not compensate for the most unpleasant 2 days in a hotel I have ever spent.... Management, invest in some portable Aircon units or lose business, as this type of weather is going to be an annual occurrence, and I suspect that I am not alone in being very unlikely to book this hotel again.

Overall the hotel is nice but there is no air conditioning and the parking spaces are very few.

Beautiful old hotel. Lovely breakfast. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Stayed during the heatwave last week so bedrooms were incredibly hot but fans and bottles of iced water provided. No air conditioning which would have helped enormously but did not spoil our stay. Foyer and lounge areas coolest part of hotel. Would definitely stay again, though hopefully not in a heatwave next time.

Good location, very friendly staff but the room was so hot it was impossible to sleep

Hotel is in a great location - just over 15 minute walk to the train station, close to shops and the Cathedral - looks like the downstairs has been elegantly renovated. Beautiful newly-refurbished bedroom, with some really thoughtful extra touches - such as a rubber bathmat and handrail, electric fan, suitcase stand, and biscuits every day with the tea and coffee. I liked being able to open the window. Some of the staff seemed less friendly and professional than one would expect - however, generally the staff were o.k. and two of the younger reception staff (a young man and young woman), both with dark hair, were both pleasant and helpful. I didn't have breakfast at the hotel, as there were plenty of cafes and Bill's Kitchen (in All Saints Church) in the same street and close by.

Super friendly staff and great public spaces, great location. What little food I tried at the bar was excellent. The only thing that inconvenienced me a little was the lack of a mini fridge in the room. Mind you, it's an old building. Would come back.

The reception, house and dining staff were lovely. However the room was dated and in need of some investment in the building fabric. Windos propt open with wooden dowels, taps you have to rotate a few times before you get any meaningful water out (both hot and cold). The mixer tap in the bath for showers had a nut missing to hold the handle from coming off in your hand. Same problem with getting water as per the sink. No thermostat control so temperature fluctuates constantly. Fan in the room helped keep air flowing. With the window open on the room location, there was the constant noise of machinery switching on and off through the day and evening. The hotel is ideally located in the centre of the city so no distance to get to the night life or shops and the market.

The hotel is a gem, full of character, great location and offers parking. We were unable to extend our king room prior to arrival so booked a classic for the additional night. At check-in they managed to upgrade the classic at no extra charge so we wouldn't have to change room mid-stay. Would definitely stay again.

Great location, lovely staff, comfy bed. Room and furnishings all looking pretty tired and like they could do with an update, and what looked like mould on the bathroom ceiling presumably due to the lack of ventilation there. Breakfast was fairly average. Would stay again but best not to have particularly high expectations.

The receptionists were both very nice and helpful. The hotel has character and was comfortable. However, I stayed during a hot period and the room I was in was extremely hot, despite the two fans. Otherwise no complaints.

Front desk staff were very helpful, excellent area to find restaurants, shopping and close to the cathedral. It was quite hot for my visit so the staff provided fans and ice buckets with bottles of water. If you need anything, just ask! Would stay here again if ever in the area.

The car park was very good value for money. The hotel is perfectly located with friendly and helpful staff. The only comment necessary is the low level lighting in the room, slightly higher wattage LED bulbs were needed.

One night stay while visiting friends in Hereford, good night sleep, will be beck!

Hotel is good, nice staff and clean room. Could be doing with maintenance to the outside.

The toilet in our room didn’t flush properly so we resorted to pouring bins of water down it. When we read reviews said that another couple had stayed in room 233 and had the same problem. Obviously not been fixed. Decore tired and very dark no outlook.

This is a very lovely old hotel. Very Clean and well maintained and the rooms are lovely. The Staff were all very helpful and cheerful and seemed to enjoy their work. There is parking at the back of the hotel but also another car park just a little way down the road. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night and it was excellent. Breakfast was OK but not well stocked and whilst more supplies were delivered when asked for, it was quite a wait and then other items ran out so a very disjointed meal and not worth the £18 charged. Would we stay here again ....most definately.

Our double room was spotless, clean and of suitable size for a short stay but would be cosy for a longer stay. Check-in was easy, I did that online via their email link so super easy, parking is via a shared hotel/public car park so spaces are not always available. Breakfast was great, plenty to choose from. Only negative would be the water pressure/temperature on the 3rd floor and it seemed to struggle to deliver a very simple shower.
