We stayed for 1 night whilst in Buxton to see a show at The Opera House. Our usual hotel was fully booked so though we’d try The Old Hall. The accommodation areas are bordering on dilapidated. Characterful no longer applies. We spoke to other guests and they found the same with one even without a working shower. Major staff shortage. The breakfast area was ok but 5 members of staff had rung in sick ( including the manager, which suggests low morale ) so the food etc was in short supply. The 2 on duty did the best they could but woefully understaffed. Overall, we wouldn’t stay again.

The hotel is in an excellent post for the Opera house and the centre of Buxton. The cost of parking is £6 for 24 hours with one of their permits. The hotel is very quirky with is uneven floors but this adds to the charm. The breakfast was great. Would stop again.

The Old Hall hotel is just what it's says in the name. It's a character full old building. It's clean, quirky, and the staff are excellent. We have stayed previously and will do again. Splendid breakfast as well.

A wonderful old hotel, lots of interesting history . Situated perfectly for everything. Parking can be a problem as Buxton is a very popular place to visit.

Good quality towels and bed linen. Plenty of hot water and high powered shower. Adequate breakfast selection. Very helpful staff. Excellent position for amenities.

Historic hotel in great location for visiting the gardens and the opera house. Large room with good enough facilities. Good early dinner in the bar with attentive staff. We had a late breakfast at a busy time; reasonable choice. Metal serving spoons under the hot canopy were too hot to use; coffee was weak.

Breakfast was very nice but could have been hotter at 8.30am Very clean rooms, towels lovely and soft on heated rail. Parking outside was fine. Location great spot next to park and nezt to railway station.

In a phone call from someone from the hotel ( turns out they were from the Crescent hotel, owned by by same company,) I specifically asked about breakfast time as we had to be at Assembly rooms at 8 am. I was assured breakfast started at 7.30, even on a Saturday. On arrival I found this was not the case. The person on reception assured us that it would be be sorted with either the chef coming in early or us being walked round to other hotel. Saturday morning staff knew nothing about this but did take us to other hotel. The lift was an act of faith; we only used it going up, despite mobility issues , and twice had to get a member of staff to get the lift as the door did not always close properly. Meal in the bar was excellent…but was the restaurant ever open for anything other than breakfast? We also had to ask for more toilet roll; even budget hotels leave you a spare!

Staff at breakfast needed to be a lot more helpful and cleaner. Breakfast was cold and dried up bacon like leather. Overall all staff needed sorting ie learn how to wellcome visitors. Bar was not stocked and unable to purchase draughty beer. Would not advise others to stay.

The staff worked very hard in every way. The hotel itself, probably due to age, needs attention re decor and sash windows which are draughty. I felt there were building restrictions making things difficult for updating. Dinner choices were excellent.

We had a lovely stay. Our room was spacious and clean. Staff were friendly. Would stay again.

The place was clean per se but the upholstery is long stained and tired. Could do with some TLC. Great location. Exceptional staff.

It would have been helpful to have parking info prior to the stay but staff very helpful and hotel was quiet and comfortable.

The building is the oldest hotel in England so you can't expect it to be all shiny and gleaming. But it is very clean, slightly quirky and off shape and the floors were solid but uneven at times. This just added to the charm for us though as we live in a 90yr old house so it didn't surprise us. The room was very clean, the bathroom was nicely refurbished and came with nice toiletries provided. The bed was slightly firm but that's a personal preference so we can't complain about that. Checked in early as our room was ready. Alistair on reception was fantastic, funny little tales and lots of local information to help us settle in. The were no evening meals being served so we ate next door and were given a 20% discount voucher to do so which is a nice touch. We had the fish and chips in Darwins bar, huge portion and well cooked. Breakfast was excellent and comes with a nice view over the Pavilion Gardens if you get the right table. Nice hotel. Not too expensive and great for the one night we stayed

I booked the accommodation for a present for my partner with our friends. They had a room twice the size of ours which was lovely for them but quite disappointing for us. There was no socket near the mirror to plug in the hairdryer.

The positives: - good size bedroom & shower room and generally clean. - staff friendly and supportive The not so good: - entrance and reception area needs attention - buffet breakfast was only just warm.

Great to be greeted at reception. Hotel very old but quirky and fun. Breakfast great. Parking but confusing. As hotel info states on site parking but we didn’t know which side to park other than there are signs for payment yet no machines. We were told not to worry but I did see a sign saying permit only so hope all ok

Great l9cation. Breakfast very good. Staff excellent.
