The location on the corner of a quiet road junction was convenient, the staff free check in / out was sensible and progressive consistent with all relevant information gathered during booking. Street parking was ample and the room clean - if a little small for the furniture present. The bed was clean, soft and had enough bedding. The room and bathroom finishing was adequate, sanitary, but showed some signs of inconsideration (knots on the door frame showed through the paintwork - i.e. no 'knot priming' and the silicone sealant on the shower door was clean, but nearly 2cm onto the tiles in some places; the same tiles had been used on the floor as the shower so, while decorative and functional, difficult to clean / wipe down; there was an opening window but no extractor fan - so a damp bathroom or noise from the pub downstairs [NB: reviewed during world cup]). The range of self-serve continental breakfast was more than adequate; the small, clean, neat space to have it in was sufficient for one room/two people (booking instructions stated that breakfast could be taken to rooms on trays....once fully prepared which: low space) but not two (4 adults) really....waiting for toast, microwave porridge and kettles to boil. In summary: 'adequate' - a decent property at a reasonable price....but everything was a little tight to the point of being cramped. Bar located below was a nice idea; when I visited all seats were occupied with many patrons nose-in-phone so went elsewhere.

Ok for the price but no frills. Parking can be challenging with no dedicated spaces and located on a front street.

This was not a Hotel just a non staffed B&B With code key access, confused by the Railway Hotel next Door which is a totally seperate entity.We were amongst the many who went into the Hotel expecting it to be The premises ! But NO.Hotel owner and staff helped ,when they did not need to The picture on booking sites shows the Hotel not the Actual B&B. Confusing. That Aside The Stair Railing is breaking off at the Bottom and is dangerous for the Elderly ,and the Shower in the Cookson Room is a Trap ,with both Myself and after My Wife being unable to exit ,with the folding door sticking and been unable to be opened from inside,I got out by being taller and grabbing hold of the top of the Door and pulling it back from there. MY Wife was stuck in there for five minutes calling out to me to help her Exit it as she could not open it inward I did eventually hear her and rescued her. This Shower needs to have better exit access when in use. DenisH

This was a good stop-over hotel. It's not conventional - just a few rooms but a well-stocked help-yourself breakfast room, and it worked well for one night and the owner, Julia, was lovely and helpful. The room was relatively small - but well appointed and tea/coffee options and bathroom toiletries were all good. It was really warm in the room which was even before the heatwave, and the blackout curtains really needed to be closed for privacy as there is no blind/net curtain which did stop the benefit from an open window, so if you have a fan, take it with you!

Breakfast included turned out to be Bread/Cereals no cooked breakfast unless you paid £10. Excellent location, parking in street. Tiny room with hardly any space but It was fairly quiet. Disappointing really. Stains on the carpet and you could not adjust the shower. Curtains were thin and not black out curtains.

Clean room with 2 twin beds.and cute decor. Just was very attentive. Attached pub (Railway Tavern) had a friendly atmosphere, and best English breakfast on our tip so far!

The room itself was clean and comfortable. No proper instructions were sent regarding accessing the room (which is via a key safe). Luckily, the girl in the pub had a scrap of paper with the details. I didn't see anyone from the hotel itself during my stay. There is a small kitchen with a breakfast bar (seating for two people), fridge, toaster etc but no sink. During my stay the room was being used to store three bikes belonging to other guests which I think is incredibly inconsiderate. What I find even more disturbing though, is the fact that they were allowed to do it. Either the management condones the practice or they were unaware. The latter suggests a lack of supervision of the property which I find disturbing. I sent an email the next day but have yet to receive a reply. Very poor customer service.

A very clean and comfortable place. The rooms were very nice and the beds quite comfortable. The bathrooms were up to date and there was plenty of hot water. The pub next door was very hand for a drink and breakfast in the morning. Very friendly staff.

Similar commination problems with owner as others have reported. No info on how to access room (pub next door helped even though they have nothing to do with the hotel anymore despite the photos). Owner said txt had ben sent but had left phone at home so couldn’t say who she’d sent it to. After stay, no response to complaints after several attempts to contact requesting refund (saying she cannot read Hotels.com messages when they contacted her). Complaints were: 1. Toilet seat fell off toilet – not attached to unit 2. Water bottle stopper had mould growing in it 3. Breakfast – make it yourself but nowhere to eat it (no table / chair in room and tiny communal table in room where ingredients stored 4. Flies flew out of breakfast fridge when opened 5. Bed mattress old and worn out 6. WiFi inoperable How can she run a business like this? Stay somewhere else.

It was a lovely little Inn and the Village area very pretty. The room itself was nice; however smaller than what was expected as was the bed which was not that comfortable. We seemed to be the only people there which I found odd given when I booked it appeared the Inn was sold out. Breakfast was do it yourself with bread, cereal etc available in a small room next to the entrance. There is no one on site and instructions for getting in were provided by email. The room would be great for one person. The bathroom and room were clean ( carpet a bit dated). We only stayed one night on our way through I don’t think this place would have worked if we had planned to stay longer. I understand the Inn might be under new ownership or a new operator. There is a for sale sign in the outside. Overall it worked but as noted room and bed smaller than expected.

The "hotel" has closed. The base of the bed was very wobbly, how I imagine a waterbed might feel. The eco-toilet was very loud.

Easy check in/check out, Host very friendly and couldnt be more helpful. Comfortable and clean.

was good for access to Hadrians Wall which was the reason we stayed there.

The girl behind the bar was very friendly. The bar area was ok not a lot of choice of beers. Disappointed with food said Bistro nothiing like on website only burgers or wraps available and that came up in cardboard boxes ! Not very good. Room and bed were clean. Only on street parking and was lucky to get a space. Ok for one night
