Shakya House is in walking distance......10 minutes at most from Durbar Square. The walk itself is very interesting as it is the very old area of Patan and every moment there are amazing sights to see. It is also only 10/15 minute from a large supermarket that has everything you my need. It is well worth the stay as the owner and the staff are very welcoming and will do anything to help. As the sign says... come as a guest and leave as a friend.
I spent a lovely two nights at Shakya House. All of the staff were very friendly, especially the owner. I stayed in the Green Tara room (twin) - the mattresses were very comfortable, the room was very clean and had some lovely furnishings. The bathroom is clean and has a very hot shower. There is a pleasant self-service breakfast room with fruit, breads, eggs, cereals, tea and coffee. At the front, there is a lovely, peaceful garden. The location is 10 minutes' walk to Durbar Square which means it is nice and quiet at night too. I would most definitely return to Shakya House!
The hotel felt the most clean of all of the places that we had stayed over the prior month in India and Nepal - this includes the "3 and 4 star" hotels, which often times just look clean on the surface. The owner was one of the most friendly people who we have encountered in Nepal, and helped to make sure that our taxi driver got us there safely, as well as when we left. 5 or 6 block walk from Durbar sqare. Breakfast was great. Internet and power worked. The only downside was that we couldn't get hot water in the bathroom (but it wasn't freezing either, and this is the case in most places that we have stayed in Nepal).
