The Radison Blu was a very upscale hotel sitting right on the River Shannon in Atlone. A short walk across bridge to Castle & old town. The room was quiet, clean & well appointed . We appreciated them being able to allow us early check in. The Double overlooking the River was quite large & the bathroom very updated. While it is supposed to have air conditioning, it is controlled centrally and only turned on at the facility discretion. Our room was quite warm & when I called about it, I was offered a fan. I did find that the windows opened which also offered some relief. The other thing I disliked was that WiFi was unsecured. In this age, security is paramount and I feel any WiFi offered should be password secured. They have a quite elaborate leisure center included in stat which includes use of bicycles. The gentleman running that was very friendly & helpful.

Great location , clean and quiet during our stay. Rooms were reasonably well fitted.

We had a great 1-night stay here. The staff was very friendly, the location was fabulous, and the room was very comfortable.

Beds were comfy, and it was a nice and quiet stay. Great location. The included breakfast was good.

Perfect location, room with view of the Shannon, all good. Only disapointment was the too soft and lumpy mattress.... not a good nights sleep.

Excellent hotel. Staff were great. Only small issue was no residents bar so we were asked to leave bar at 11.30 and move to reception area.

Excellent location, right in front of the castle and all the historic buildings. The Marina Cafe with a view to the water is the place in town. We loved our stay.

Best hotel in Athlone and a great location.

Lovely stay

Great location and comfortable room

Second stay in 8 months with family group for a big birthday celebration. A number of issues that caused anxiety and wasted time. A twin room booked but given double (eventually resolved after 3 separate attempts). Fridge requested for junior suite was a freezer and child’s medicine frozen. Brother had to search for pharmacy and get new prescription on Sunday morning (Mother’s Day). Booked area in foyer in advance for people joining us at the hotel to continue birthday celebrations. Mentioned again at check in. This hadn’t been done and I was getting frantic messages whilst finishing the 80th birthday dinner in a nearby restaurant. No recognition made by hotel of the 80th b/d. Often hotels will make some little gesture. We didn’t see much difference between superior river room and a standard room. Everything had run out at breakfast 9.45 on Monday so queues at every food item until eventually more (hot water, milk, bread, cooked food) started to appear piecemeal. Bar area and staff was good and staff very polite. But the number of issues during a two night stay (3 rooms) for a special birthday has prompted me to write these remarks.

Freundliches Personal

Check in was completed by a friendly Australian young man and a very friendly local lady. Rooms were spacious and clean. Only issue - no fridge, but a minor issue. Great location-short walk to the many local pubs which were fabulous for drinks and food. Short walk across the bridge to the church and castle as well as the oldest pub - Sean's Bar. Had a great time.

Room was comfortable and staff where very Helpful.
