The hotel is a lovely old building in dire need of refurbishment. It looks tired and needs updating. It was clean, but the sheets and towels are off colour. The biggest problem is that our room was on the first floor, immediately above the entrance to a night club and the noise of revellers carried on till 3-00 am. The management know about this as they supply ear plugs, but these only partly worked. It would have been nice to have been told about this before we had settled in, or maybe improve the sound insulation to the windows. My assumption is that they do not get many repeat bookings.

Parking and check in was good. Nice large room but very irritating green light in the ceiling was constantly on and kept me awake at night. This meant I had very little sleep. There was also excessive noise from down below from early morning.

The receptionist who checked me in was lovely. I had forgotten to request a room with no stairs and she was very helpful. I wasn't in the hotel much as I was visiting friends, but my room was very nice and the bed was warm and comfy.

Easy check in and check out, clean and convenient room. All essentials in the room.

Room was good but had background noise, but we were upgraded without any bother. Second room was spacious and comfortable. Good bathroom. Didn’t use restaurant.

We couldn't stay due to finding bedbugs on the head board. Staff couldn't give a refund, it was now 11.58pm so we had to sleep in the car. Not happy still no promised refund or correspondence Horrendous experience Never staying at the Royal again. Minus 10 stars..

Stunning bathroom plenty of room in the shower bed very comfortable only negative was the floor boards creaking when getting out of bed going to the bathroom but that was nothing serious staff excellent and the hotel very clean excellent 10 out of 10 I will definitely stay again

Fantastic location, very nice room. The ear plugs were both worrisome and a nice touch. The surrounding area is definitely noisy from the main thoroughfare and local music from pubs.

Excellent situation, very good breakfast. (no hot milk weirdly) Take an eye mask as our bedroom had terrible green glowing light in the ceiling which meant the bedroom was never dark all night. It was really intrusive and would put me off staying here again.

We have stayed before so we already knew the hotel; - Staff courteous and efficient. - The room was spacious, clean, light and airy, - Breakfast This time though there were a few niggles. - Parking: insufficient information i.e not clear where we could park (permit etc); - Key card did’nt work, however quickly dealt with; - Long hair on the shower wall; - Bed REALLY uncomfortable (springs felt)/pillow hard hence we couldn’t get to sleep; - More hand towels needed; - No drinking glasses ie water etc; - No information book; - Bath/shower, VERY hard to get in and out. No slip-mat included (accident waiting to happen); - No sockets near bed (charge phones etc).
