My wife and I stayed at the Hilton Harrogate for one night. The staff were excellent throughout our stay, particularly Ashley, the Duty Manager, and Renisha on Reception, who were helpful and did their best to resolve the issues we encountered. The lobby, grand staircase and function rooms are stunning and create a great first impression.
Unfortunately, our King Room was disappointing. The décor felt old and dated, and the room was dusty. The bathroom had some nice features, including double sinks, but the bath would not drain properly and the shower hose was split, causing water to spray everywhere. The paint above the shower was also peeling badly.
The room layout was odd, with a fridge where the chair should have been, and the dressing table mirror was poorly positioned for doing makeup. The room was extremely hot. Although a fan was provided, it was faulty and very noisy because the blades were catching the grille. We repeatedly tried calling Reception and Guest Services but received no answer. A replacement fan was eventually provided, but as the hotel was fully booked we could not be moved.
To cool the room overnight, we had to leave the windows open, which meant listening to a noisy ventilation system outside.
The indoor spa facilities were pleasant, but the outdoor hot tub was filthy, with hair floating in the water. Several other guests also appeared unhappy with its condition.
Overall, the staff and public areas were excellent, but the room and cleanliness was bad.
