Arrived at 2 pm, front desk asked us to come back at 3, eventually checked-in at 3 ish, front desk informed that the Spa closes at 4:30. Rushed to the Spa straight after check-in, and the woman at Spa told us the Spa closes at 3:45 instead because they need time to "clean-up". So we ended up spending 15 mins at the Spa.. Went to the Spa next morning, only to find out the Spa was closed the whole day due to "maintenance"! Complained to the front desk when checked-out, and the lady said "well, it's not enjoyable when it's cloudy anyway". EXCUSE ME?! No compensation and nothing from the management to compensate for no Spa which is the obvious reason why people choose this place instead of a Holiday Inn... Not what a 4 star hotel service should be like! Will go to Rushton Hall Hotel next time...

If I were to book again, I would ask for a ground floor room with air conditioning. The elevator is for luggage only, and a person with limited mobility would find the stairs (although very wide, carpeted and with handrails) a challenge. The restaurant is great for breakfast or dinner. The pool is very nice, heated and outdoors. Very helpful staff. The hotel is apparently a popular wedding venue, it was very busy the day we checked out.

We had a standard room with a double bed with a massive en suite with walk in shower. We were on third floor no lifts as far as i could see, the stairs felt a bit dodgy in places and it felt as if they were sloping but it is a listed building. We did not use the spa services but did have a look and they appeared to be good. Not many big shops within the immediate vicinity so it would have been nice to have a little bit more information within the room

Historic old building in a beautiful setting. Quirky but relaxing and the outdoor spa is an amazing experience. Clean comfortable room. No refrigerator though. I was in a newer extension towards the rear of the hotel and the walls were a bit thin. I could hear the extractor fans from the bathrooms around me. But zero traffic noise.

Spa access not clearly disclosed and disappointing stay We chose Barton Hall Hotel & Spa largely because of its high Expedia rating and the expectation of enjoying the spa during our stay. However, on arrival we were told that spa access for hotel guests is not guaranteed, as day spa and twilight bookings can take priority. This came as a surprise because the spa is presented as a complimentary amenity at the time of booking on the Expedia listing, with no indication that access may depend on capacity. The first time this was explained was at check-in after payment had already been taken, by which point we had travelled over 40 miles to the hotel with no practical opportunity to reconsider the booking or cancel without charge. While the hotel eventually found a spa slot for us, the interaction at reception felt uncomfortable and detracted from what was meant to be a relaxing visit. Room 18 also appeared to require maintenance, with marks on the walls, worn fixtures and deteriorating window frames. In general, parts of the building appeared tired, with uneven floors and visible cracking and bowing to the lounge ceiling that raised some concern. There were also safety issues: the bathroom towel rail became extremely hot and both my girlfriend and I burned ourselves on it, and I stumbled on a raised threshold entering the spa. Despite raising these issues afterwards, no apology or acknowledgement of the inconvenience was offered, which was disappointing.

The staff are very friendly and nothing is a problem if you need anything. The rooms are clean and spacious and the bed is very comfortable. Breakfast has a Fantastic choice and the evening meals are extremely tasty Will definitely be back soon. Excellent place for a few days relaxation
