As a day set aside for time to reflect, ANZAC Day is held every year on April 25. The day commemorates Australians and New Zealanders who served and lost their lives in war, conflicts and peacekeeping efforts.

The date itself is significant as it marks the anniversary of World World I’s Gallipoli landing, where 8700 Australians died and around 18,000 were wounded. While it initially began as a way to honour WWI ANZAC forces, it has since evolved to commemorate all Australians and New Zealanders involved in subsequent war and peacekeeping operations.

Traditional events to expect on the day included the Dawn Service, Anzac Day marches and playing Two-Up at pubs.

When is ANZAC Day in Canberra in 2026?

ANZAC Day is held on the same date every year across all of Australia, including Canberra. In 2026, ANZAC Day is Saturday, April 25.
