What Guests Say About Their Stay

Palms City Resort is a beautiful place to stay. We stayed in March 2024. The staff are extremely courteous and most helpful. The room we stayed in was on the 2nd floor and was spacious and serviced all our needs. It only has two floors and stairs up to it, but they are not arduous. It has a pool which is big enough to do laps in. The grounds are its best asset. Surrounded by lush palms, native trees, and shrubs, it looks like a hotel you would expect to see in tropical Qld. It is a very quiet and peaceful hotel, despite its central location. The location is excellent. It is only a 10 min walk to the main centre of town and right next door to a pub we really enjoyed: The Hotel Darwin. It is right opposite the memorial gardens that lead onto the harbour and at night the sunsets are worthy of photos and meditative relaxation. One of the highlights for us was Pickles, a gorgeous green-cheeked Conure who regularly sits at reception and greets the guests. If we have to be picky, our only complaint is the design of the bathroom vanity, which due to its design becomes flooded with water when you wash your hands or face. We had to continuously wipe it dry with a towel. But that is a mere detail. Otherwise, we would highly recommend this hotel.

The whole property is tropical and amazing you feel like you’re on holiday as soon as you get there. Say a special hello to pickles for me! Enjoy a drink by the pool.

Such a pretty relaxing resort with lovely bungalows and a very pleasant pool. The rooms are a little tight compared to some but very comfortable and have everything you need. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. There are lots of restaurants walking distance away.

The Garden Bungalow was surprisingly small. And the location of the Bungalow that we were assigned was right by a noisy street. Given the amount paid for the room, we would’ve expected a better location within the resort. Perhaps they need to consider giving a discounted rate to the bungalows that are right by the street.

Room was fine, WIFI signal negligible, cleaners didn’t do a full room clean in 3 days, gardeners were a nuisance trying to come on the property when I was there every 30 minutes. Extended the stay and you would have thought I was asking for a blood transfusion. Overall dated resort with negligible understanding of customer service

WE CHECKED IN AT 5.30PM AND LEFT AT APPROXIMATELY 11pm THE SAME NIGHT. OUR CREIT CARD WAS RECORDED AS WHAT WAS DESCRIBED AS ESSENTIAL PART OF CHECK-IN, ALTHOUGH WE EXPLAINED THAT WE WERE THERE FOR A SHORT STAY ONLY DUE TO OUR SCHEDULED 1.30am FLIGHT TO SYDNEY THE NEXT MORNING. NOW WE FIND THAT THEY HAVE BILLED THAT CREDIT CARD FOR $150 ALTHOUGH THE ROOM HAD BEEN PAID IN ADVANCE AND WE HAD NO ADDITIONAL CHARGES. THIS IS A SCAM!

uncooperative and unhelpful staff, street noise, no privacy from street and neighbours, defective and missing room equipment, room safe would not unlock, bathroom door blocked by bed, fans would not turn down, shower access ridiculous, we enjoyed Darwin sites and dining out but this resort was a nightmare and expensive

Lovely room and setting, but at a price. Very disappointing to then discover that there was a charge for bag storage despite staying before and after our trip.

The hotel facilities are good and the location is great. Our breakfast experience was so bad we actually asked for a refund which was promised but hasn’t materialised. When we asked for the missing eggs, bacon, tomatoes, beans, a working coffee machine and a clean table we were told they were very busy putting glasses out. Oh, no bread either, when some finally arrived it was only white sliced bread.

Obscenely expensive for what is basically a cheap motel building with some planting. The greenery is beautiful, of course, but rooms are unfailingly bland affairs with virtually no comforts. The room lighting uses brilliant white bulbs which is incredibly uncomfortable - I felt like I was in an operating theatre rather than a hotel room. The WiFi was poor enough for YouTube to constantly buffer on the TV - this is really not good enough considering the price charged. Also, the shower door was broken and therefore kept jamming and the light switch was dodgy which meant the light in the bathroom didn't stay on. Also, this hotel can be rather noisy - families generally thinking they own the place, kids running around as well as the Hotel Darwin blaring loud music on a Saturday night. I asked to be moved and luckily one room's guests hadn't checked in so I got a swap. Generally with hotels you get what you pay for, in this case you don't.

Perfect atmosphere In a great location. Pool was brilliant, and the private spa room was just great. Almost non existent wifi was frustrating given the cost per night spent.
