I loved everything about Judges and would stay there again in a heartbeat! I stayed in a Character Double room. It was extremely spacious, had comfy bed and pillows, a view of the Minister, and a bath to soak in. The amenities are very well thought out and made me feel cared for (fluffy robe and slippers, washcloths, complimentary sparkling water and chocolates, quality bathroom products, and eye mask and earplugs - didn't need them because it was very quiet at night). The breakfast was outstanding! Full breakfast cooked upon order and the buffet with pastries, juices, etc. They start you off with a delicious fresh squeezed juice of orange, lemon, and ginger. Staff was all wonderful. Judges was my favorite hotel during my 2 week trip through the UK!

This time we booked into what was called a courtyard room, actually more of a yard room, we could you the revellers until 2am, we heard the barrels being moved at 5am, there was noise from the rooms close by, so compared to all the purge seats this was not one to shout positive things about. Also the Court”yard” room bendy we had to walk outside in the rain to get to the main building which when it so pouring with rain is a tad inconvenient. Finally the milk we were driven once opened was clearly off. Phew what a pong. So unfortunately this review is one or our more critical reviews. The answer is definitely to not book the Court”Yard” rooms

Booked The Lodgings for a birthday present for my partener. Jackeline on reception was perect and proffesional. The room was small but nice and had the flowers I had preordered and we could see the Minster through the fire escape door, we were in the "Belfry". I had booked what I thought would be a romanatic evening meal in the hotel only to find they were not using the dinning rooom and would have to eat in the bar downsatirs. We had a look at the meue and decide there wasn`t anything that took our fancy, only to be given another menu. We decided to go across the road and eat at "Nolas" the staff were not that botherd. Woken at 06.30 by the scaffold coming down in the yard outside our window, nothing the hotel could do about that though. Breakfast was a real let down, we were shown into a small dinning room in which the staff struggled to get round the tables. Some tables were yet to cleared, I had to moved to sit beside my partner. The front door to the Hotel and the dinning room door were wide open so I was sat in a draft. I asked for the door to be closed, You would have thought I asked for the Crown Jewels. One of the Waitress`s had a runny nose. We asked for tea for two and was told they only had one tiny teapot. Aside from this the food, a full English and a Shatsuka were ok. How it keeps a 5 star rating I dread to think, The who place needs upgrading and the staff need retrainng. Very disappointed and would not return or recomend. Service piss poor.

Wonderful old property. Breakfast was great. The hotel has beautiful features. The staircase inside is gorgeous. Lots of stairs so be prepared. The bar is fun and food good. Can’t beat the location if coming by train. Town is at your door, easily one of the most walkable location. Friendly welcoming staff.

Great location. Main building is quirky and beautiful. We were in a room not in the main building. There was a strong smell of damp. I informed housekeeper about one bulb not working and a faulty bedside light. She insisted I must be mistaken, when she checked She reluctantly agreed I was right. Overall a pleasant stay but smell of damp and dismissive housekeeper tainted the experience

Terrace room we booked looked out directly into diners and drinkers a few feet away so blinds kept closed. Room was clean but needed a refresh as furnishings tired, walls marked, blinds broken. Building is well located with an interesting history and the cellar bar was good. There are much better rooms elsewhere for the price

Comfortable and safe stay, but this did not feel like a 5* experience. The room was beautiful however, it was cramped for 2 adults and 2 children. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was average at best however, the breakfast was very good with a varied selection. The hotel is an excellent choice for its location but just didn’t match its 5 star reputation.

Pros: central location, amazing breakfast, gorgeous main building, beautiful Christmas decorations. Cons: shabby room (poor quality furniture, black mold, dripping condescension), tiny room, bad view of wall/alley (we booked courtyard room but it was a side annex past bins and bike rack), loud and stern check in staff. I don’t think this hotel deserves such a high rating, but if you splash out on a fancy room then you would be happier. The terrace rooms are more modern and might also be better quality. Avoid the courtyard rooms!
