Breakfast was particularly impressive, with an excellent selection across both the continental and cooked options, all of which tasted great. We recently stayed at Lumley Castle and had an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and well looked after by the friendly and attentive staff. One of the highlights of our stay was being upgraded to a room in the main castle building, which made our visit even more special. Staying within the historic heart of the castle really added to the magic of the experience and made us feel immersed in its incredible history and character. Our room was beautiful, comfortable, and full of charm, while still offering all the modern comforts we could have wanted. Exploring the castle and its stunning surroundings was a real pleasure, and every corner seemed to have its own story to tell. The food was excellent, and breakfast in such a unique and atmospheric setting made every meal feel like an occasion. Throughout our stay, the staff consistently went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. Lumley Castle is a truly special place that offers something far beyond a typical hotel stay. The upgrade to the main building was a wonderful surprise and helped create memories that we will treasure for years to come. We would not hesitate to recommend it and are already looking forward to returning.

Always love our overnight stays at Lumley. Love the more quirky rooms in particular. Breakfast is always gorgeous, and well organised. Staff are all lovely, approachable, friendly, cheerful. The only two things I might say is that the Library Bar doesn't have a whole lot of choice for bigger plate meals. Burgers, fish and chips, pie and ravioli. Maybe 2 or 3 other choices? Would benefit someone like me with OA cervical spine, to have a choice of 2 pillow types, firm and the usual hotel soft. I find it very difficult to stay asleep on the very soft, hence being awake a lot of last night, due to very soft pillows causing more pain. Just a choice of 2 would be better, firm, and soft. Other than that, another gorgeous stay. Can't wait to come back.

Room was spotlessly clean (apart from some mould on the shower strip). Comfortable room and plenty of space, nice and quiet. Only gripe is the room was very hot, a small fan was provided in the room but had little effect. Breakfast was very good, the continental was plentiful and the got breakfast was cooked well. Didn't eat in the dining room but the bar staff where we had drinks were all very nice. Lovely building to explore.

The coach house rooms are quite small and rather dated. The room I stayed in ( number 6) had a piece of flooring that if it was not for the fitted carpet/underlay I swear I’d have fallen through. The shower was in the eves of the room which meant for a 6’1” man I am the shower head was around shoulder height… also being that tall I could see the cistern had not been wiped over for a long while. Also the moving of a presume the owners loud porches and subsequent electrical sanding down at circa 8-9 am in the courtyard meant that even if you wanted to sleep in you could not… Overall the staff are amazingly attentive ( but with the 12.5% added to all your purchases they should be) and in fairness the food was piping hot when they served it Eating in the bar is indigestion in a room as the seats are high and the tables low. The restaurant ( where I had breakfast only) was lovely albeit you needed to hike to get your continental. The Eggs Benedict was not the best… I suggest rocket used in place of the cress and I’m pretty sure my ham was a little old. Over all a lovely experience but not what I had expected. Would I stay again… yes so long as there was no other option available. Trip was business, no I did not complain as we British just don’t do that!

Stunning castle location, as its well over 100 years old wonky floors should be expected. Our ground floor room was right next to some stairs which I thought might have been a problem but apart from the odd guest with diving boots on early on we didn't get disturbed. You get what you pay for and as such the restaurant was a bit pricey but the food was excellent and the staff very pleasant. The grounds are very picturesque with a golf course next door. Well worth a visit.
