Beautiful hotel, excellent staff, spacious room with coffee setup / kettle + free coffee/tea/water etc. Robes + fluffy towels + turn down service at night. Always a taxi out front. Restaurant was great, room service super fast. Like everywhere, it’s expensive. I found our four night stay to be relaxing + wonderful.

I always stay here if it’s not booked on my travel dates. I love it- simple, convenient and low key with class but without the pretense. Rooms are very small but clean and comfy. Beautiful bistro for a wonderful breakfast and perfect location. Hands down my favorite place to stay when I am in London.

A pleasant stay, ruined by a hidden service charge. On check out a 5% service charge was added to my bill. When questioned I was given the passive aggressive response that the charge was optional and “if you don’t want to reward our dedicated staff then we can remove it”. I felt very pressured in this situation and being unaware of tippping custom had no option but to pay the charge. I sent a follow up review to the hotel and received an unpleasant response that it was mentioned in the hotel registration card - although it was not mentioned in the Expedia price. The hotel must understand that tipping is a deeply nuanced issue - when staying in an expensive hotel we always want to reward the lowly paid service staff, but the way this was presented was unpleasant and felt like social engineering. The Marylebone Hotel is effectively using the status of its service staff to extract an additional 5 pc from customers. I would challenge the hotel - if you really want to reward your staff, then raise their salaries 5 pc and be honest about it in the fee you quote on Expedia. Alternatively, fund the staff pay increase from management fees and let me pay a bonus to management if I enjoy the hotel. My enjoyment of a hotel is dictated more by management than by service staff, so this is a much fairer arrangement. It removes the pressure from guests and rewards the staff you profess to care so much for. I would have given 5 star but have reduced to 1 star as a result.
