Vander Altona

Told we hadn't paid and our room was cancelled. Not able to cook as planned, no salt, pepper or oil, nothing provided There were steps to our room, steps to the washing machine. Not what we expected.

Fabulous apartment, had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. It was spacious, clean, in a great location close to Bryggen and the room was very quiet. Check-in system and app worked perfectly 🙂

Clean, modern and a nice size for three women. But one mirror (in the bathroom) in the entire two bedroom apartment, which isn’t great when you’re all trying to get ready at once. The key card entry was easy enough and we felt safe there. Great location, near to cafes, supermarkets and a few minutes’ walk to the nearest bus stop for the airport or 10 minutes to the light rail. You can walk to Bryggen in less than 15 minutes.

Cuisine bien équipée. Propre dans l'ensemble. La vaisselle était sale lorsqu'on est arrivée (surtout les verres et ustensiles). Odeur nauséabonde dans le corridor (étage 2), comme une odeur d'égout ou d'étable). Chambre très minimaliste, nous aurions aimé des tables de nuit pour mettre nos trucs. Oreillers beaucoup trop minces, nous en aurions eu besoin de 2 supplémentaires. Le frigo nécessite un dégivrage. Sinon, le check-in très facile, il faut lire les instructions dans les courriels et c'est tout. Très calme.

There are many things to like about this hotel location is excellent within walking distance of all interesting restaurants and the wharf. The apartment was spotlessly clean the bed was comfortable and the shower was good. It was great to have a Kitchen and there were grocery stores very close by. On the downside there was no shampoo I know basic supplies for the kitchen like salt pepper and cooking oil. So I have to go to buy those and I didn’t leave them because the instructions were to get rid of everything. I also found that the lack of instructions for how to use the various appliances was a bit disturbing and I had trouble with the induction stove and with the oven. The price however was very good for Bergen and so I would stay again. I appreciated having a laundry. The gym was less inviting since it’s in the basement with no windows although there is a very large TV. I was so long so the studio suited me fine but it would be very small for any more than one person

staff takes too long to reply to emails. confusing electricity switch, no instructions on how to use it nor for the oven/stove.

I just want to cover all the pros and cons so people will be able to make a good decision for themselves. Great location- near water and city center, food, shopping. No parking so you have to park at city parking garages. There are 2 close by , Kloster (4 min) and City Park (6 min). It is about $28 a day. In lobby print door cards. Its nice to have with your phone key. Easier to use on front door and going up in elevator. Room is very clean and modern. Has everything you need, but very small. For 2 people, there is nowhere to put luggage and one 10" to hang anything. Bed is comfortable but wedged in a corner. The top mattress shifts a little. Because there is only a small lip from bath floor to shower area. Water tends to get all over floor. We would stay here again because of the location, cleanliness, and room amenities.

I liked the fact that it had a kitchen with things you need in one. I did not like the check in or the garbage disposal after being charged for a cleaning fee. Otherwise, I liked the property.

I loved that it was quiet and clean and had a kitchenette with everything you needed to make small meals or have breakfast and lunch at home with groceries which are within walking distance about two blocks. The entry system is a little confusing and it would be nice if there were more directions on using convection stove tops and ovens for those of us who've never done that. It would be nice if they had some grocery stores and other local businesses that were close so that when you got in you could easily find them. I felt really at home in my room and everything was very comfortable. The staff we did encounter we're very friendly and kind.

The rooms were very nice but there was no shelving for toiletries in the bathroom. There was no explanation on how to use the stove which ended up being a constant frustration but with good humor we worked through it. I do want to address the staff. We were outside and a woman was trying to put her trash in the outside cans. A staff member was taking a break, she looked over and instead of getting up off the ground to assist the lady, she barked out why she could not get her trash in the can. It was quite abrupt which could be her personality but in customer care is this what you want to represent your business? Overall, the things I mentioned are small in the longrun. They were little annoyances but it didn't take away from the overall stay. The location is convenient and well situated for a stay in a beautiful city with much to experience and see.

Over all our stay was amazing. The heat in the room was crazy. We were on the 4th floor the windows didn’t open more then maybe 2-3inches and me and my partner had sweated so bad we woke up drenched.

This place was absolutely great! My partner and I felt so safe and the place itself was very nice and clean. Also, great location and price!

Clean modern apartment with all needed amenities. Building is secure and in a great neighborhood. Central to all major attractions. I would recommend a stay at this location.

Overall, my experience with Vander Altona after obtaining my keys was great. The room was excellent for the price. However, the experience leading up to check-in was difficult. I booked my trip a few weeks in advance. Shortly thereafter, Vander emailed me a payment link to pay for my stay even though I provided a credit card to Hotels.com as part of the reservation. Hotels.com explicitly says to never pay through a payment link sent by the hotel and to only ever pay through Hotels.com's website. Vander also told me to provide them with my contact information. Hotels.com doesn't seem to allow this, so Vander told me how to avoid Hotels.com's automatic censorship of personal information (e.g., by adding spaces to my email address). I initially ignored Vander's email since it seemed sketchy, and I didn't hear anything further from them. The day of my trip, I clicked on the reservation details and discovered that Vander had canceled my booking weeks prior (presumably because I didn't click their payment link). I never received any notification from Hotels.com or Vander. I didn't have many other options on such short notice, so I re-booked with Vander and paid them through their link this time. It worked out fine. Check-in was difficult as others have stated. The app didn't work. I called and was buzzed in, so no trouble in the end. But still--if you're going to have a no-staff-on-site model, it isn't really acceptable to not have a functioning app.

My email to the property - First you promise me a refund as I get locked out for HOURS , food cold, medications missed and since it was Sunday you have limited staff so we waited and waited for HOURS. Then I get back to Usa and DAYS go by and no refund as promised. Then I email YOU 3 times and you completely ignore my emails. And then TODAY out of the blue your asking me for a cleaning fee???? I stayed 9 nights NOT ONE DAY , Not a single day did you clean the apartment. And you say some thing about expedia rate ? I PAID WHAT YOU ASKED ME TO !! AND NOW YOUR SAYING THAT AS Gesture of Good will you want me to pay you for the cleaning fee ??? is this a JOKE ? Please make this right and keep you promise and refund me for the INCONVENIENCE AND STRESS YOU CAUSED ME !! shame on you *** I NEED A MANAGER TO CALL ME , This is unacceptable and Fraud AND CERTAINLY NOT PROFESSIONAL. AND You kept asking me to resend my emails over and over again *** FIX your system
