Originally based on Balinese trance dance rituals, German artist Walter Spies collaborated with local dancer Limbak in the 1930s to create a unique entertainment involving a chorus of 100 men without musical accompaniment, relying solely on sound with different intonations from each dancer. The innovation didn't stop there. In 1970, renowned Javanese dancer and choreographer Sardono W. Kusumo presented a variation of the Kecak dance by introducing elements of Javanese theater tradition, incorporating the classic Ramayana story into his dance. This stunning classical performance is a 'must-see' when in Ubud. Every Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 PM
