What Guests Say About Their Stay

The bar was a peaceful place to relax and enjoy a drink after a full day out. It was situated in a perfect location being next to the subway station. We had the opportunity to experience the local feel of the place and to also enjoy the 20-30 minute walk to Potoncho alley for a completely different vibe. Catching the subway train 4 stops to kyoto station was easy for the day tour meeting-point. We were so comfortable here and wish we'd extended our stay. We will definitely be recommending Noku to anyone travelling to Japan and staying in Kyoto.

Our rooms both smelled like cigarette smoke and there was confusion over one of the rooms that we had booked for three people, but which only had 2 single beds. It should have never been listed as being available for 3 people, and it took about 45 minutes to get it sorted out with the staff saying the disclosures should have told us it only had beds for 2 people. But then why did it ever show up as an option for 3 people through hotels.com? They had breakfast passes for 3 people for that room so clearly knew 3 were staying there, but there were still only beds for 2 people.

Found a large ant on the bathroom wall which the staff did not seem to take seriously. Otherwise, nice hotel and room. If I were to go back to Kyoto, I would stay at a hotel closer to the main train station which is about an hour walk from this hotel.

Clean and convenient. The room I got was just big enough for two people. However the bathroom basin was weirdly angled so we didn’t have enough space to put our toiletries. Otherwise everything was good.

Before travelling we emailed the hotel with a bunch of questions and they responded very quickly. Upon check in they had notes with some of the questions we had asked previously. Our room was amazing! Very spacious and included a free minibar. Location was also top notch. Right beside the metro and steps away from the Imperial Palace.

The hotel is in a great location next to a subway, however the rooms are small and dont have a Japanese style. The rooms look like they could be anywhere. They are clean and the shower was great. The service of the staff on reception was very different depending who was available at the time. This is meant to be a 4 star hotel, but has the service of a 2 star to 3 star. Some of the front staff didn’t speak basic English which is very surprising in a 4 star hotel. Also the service was lacking. Many little things were made an issue, like asking for water. Everything had a cost. There is a cafe on site next to the front desk but the staff are quite rude as hotel guests aren’t allowed to use it, which no one tells you. I sat in the cafe for less than 10 minutes and was told that was very unusual and I should move. The only positive of this hotel was that there were 2 members of staff who made my stay bearable and treated me with respect. They were also very helpful and polite. Without Miku and Joohoung it would have been a truly disastrous experience.
