The photos make the hotel appear much more updated and welcoming than in reality! The location is in a backstreet, making it rather hard to find, and is not convenient to a subway station (at least 10 minute walk to the closest station, which, with luggage, is not ideal). The property itself has a similar feel to a motel, and our room had a view overlooking a cemetery (which was clearly not included in the property description). We had just come from Kyoto where we stayed in a hotel that had the same 3-star rating as Sonezaki, but that property was amazing - clean, modern, comfortable, safe, convenient and cost less. I would not recommend anyone to stay in Sonezaki unless you have no other options.

The lady at the reception was kind enough to give us a bigger room as she said that our original room (which had a double bed meant for two) would not be able to fit our luggage - problem is, we only had one carry on suitcase so I was quite surprised to hear that. I’m really not sure how I would’ve reacted if we had been given our “original room”. The “bigger room” was quite snug as well - we could barely lay out suitcase open on the floor as well. The pillows were quite terrible but everything else was great - the bathroom was well designed and space efficient - the place was quiet and peaceful - and the staff members were pleasant. Great restaurants nearby

Shower was awful, the shower head was not adjustable with the water firing at you horizontally. Also, the shower had two settings, a fine mist or rapid jet spray. Most unpleasant shower ever!
