⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Wonderful Stay at The Scotsman We absolutely loved our stay at The Scotsman. The hotel was spotless, beautifully maintained, and incredibly comfortable. The staff were exceptional—welcoming, friendly, and genuinely helpful, which made our first trip to Scotland feel even more special. We also felt very secure throughout our stay. The hotel has a reassuring atmosphere, and everything from the building to the room access felt safe and well managed. The location couldn’t have been better. We had easy access to all the major attractions, restaurants, and sights, which made exploring Edinburgh effortless. We would highly recommend The Scotsman to anyone visiting the area. If we return to Scotland, we’ll definitely hope to stay here again.

This is a beautiful hotel in a fabulous location. The room was pure luxury! Beds are very comfortable and the in-room amenities were above expectation.

I stayed at the Scotsman for my last night in Scotland. The hotel is lovely and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. I also had dinner in the connected restaurant. It was also very good and had the kindest waitress. I would definitely go back…. Today if I could. It has been an amazing experience!

Friendly, helpful staff—arranged transportation to airport for us. Nice rooms, well stocked fridge/bar. Wonderful breakfast, again very friendly staff making sure all of our needs were met. I only wish our stay was longer and would highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Room cleaned daily, lovely staff

We had the most amazing welcome by Ivor who showed us to our room and even brought our bags for us. The room had a strange smell to it and was quite noisy with banging noises from the above floor, I think we were located underneath a bar. The room was spacious though and clean with an amazing soaking tub.

The penthouse suite was amazing. The night we arrived, I went out onto the private balcony and just watched the sun set on the city while listening to bag pipes play from somewhere below. It was magical! The suite is laid out well and was perfect for our family of three, but be aware there are stairs throughout, including to the bathrooms. One of the couches in the living room contains a pull-out sofa, and there is a door you can shut to the living room, giving extra privacy for anyone staying in the living room. The bathrooms were spotless and the jetted tub and sauna & shower combo performed flawlessly. I think my *only* complaint on the bathroom is that the tub water never got really hot. And while everything was clean, but the walls were ready for a repaint (you could see countless marks and dings from luggage) and the carpets are due for a deep cleaning. The staff were all friendly and very helpful, and they kept fresh hot cocoa near the front desk. Anything we needed, they were happy to help with. The location of the hotel is incredibly convenient, being literally across the street from Waverly station. We took a train to another city one morning, and being so close to the train station saved us a lot of time. The food was probably the only real letdown. What we had at the hotel/cafe was not bad, but was just okay. Given the location and the amazing restaurants nearby, you have better choices within walking distance.

Very cool building and great location. The room we stayed in was just OK. It was fine which I don't have a problem with but the interior hallways were disgusting. Everything was stained, doors and handles were dirty, windows were not clean and there was only one working elevator for a fairly large hotel so it took forever.

If I could give this hotel higher than a 10 I would. Everything from start to finish was exceptional. From the service, to the extra amenities and details in each room including a towel warmer, bose speakers in both the room and the bathroom, both a tea kettle and espresso maker, as well as the lovely toiletries. The service was phenomenal. The breakfast delivered to our room was absolutely delicious- don’t skip the pastry basket- that croissant was life changing! Will absolution be staying again.

Perfect central location when arriving by train or walking around the city. Fabulous whisky shop across the road!

Great location for city stay!

Not our first stay, which speaks for itself as we don't go back to places we don't rate. Lovely room, good amenities and great location for visiting Edinburgh.

What a fantastic hotel. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was beautiful and we also popped into the Grand Cafe a few times too. The location is absolutely perfect.

1st and best: you could not find a more helpful, professional and lovely staff. 2nd: The Scotsman is a step away from The Royal Mile: so museums, the Castle, Holyrood, restaurants, St. Giles,etc. Walking is easy. Shopping is a given. One thing to know about The Scotsman: there are stairs. The lift is in the process of repair so there are lots of stairs. But that being said: staff will help with all of it.

Arriving by car is a no no. There’s nowhere to stop at all. Internally, it was very noisy all night with loud footsteps, doors banging and kitchen starting service early and people using service entrance. I was on floor 2 In room furniture was very worn and covered in stains, which is pretty disgusting for the price.
