Hotel was great. There were works at George square with lots of diversions. Couldn’t reach the hotel by car. Had to wheel the suitcases to the main entrance. Lucky enough to get a room a the other side, so we were not affected by the noise.

Our one issue arises from the room window, which was painted shut. The staff quickly had maintenance free it up, but byelaws require a safety chain be permanently attached to it so that it can only be raised about 4 inches. Given that temperatures were the hottest in decades that meant the room was too hot to get a good nights sleep. I am told that heat is not an issue in Glasgow usually but global warming requires something be done, perhaps a window fan to bring cool air in. Passive cooling is not enough.

The place was so charming. Beautiful staircase. The room was small but quaint and comfortable for 1 person. Bathroom was modern and clean. Unfortunately this old building is not air conditioned and I happened to be there during an unusual heat wave! Although there was a fan in the room it was a huge noisy thing that I could not sleep with. The breakfast was not the best, scrambled eggs too mushy and swimming in liquid were inedible and the fruits were all canned and over sweet. Luckily they had other options. Staff was friendly and helpful and apologetic about the heat, but I’m sure this is a rare occurrence in Scotland, so they can’t be faulted. The location was ideal, next to Queen Street station, Buchanan Street, the hop on hop off bus. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely stay again…in cooler temperatures.

This was a sad overnight visit. Property is so tired. Can’t remember the last time I actually switched a light on in a hotel room instead of a card slot. The room had a strange smell. There was a constant droning noise the entire night (similar to a generator). The reception was unmanned at times. Had reason to use disabled access which was dark & dingy and required a call to reception for someone to unlock it. Breakfast completely average and no fresh fruit that I could see. On the plus side, bed was very comfortable. I remember its glory days as the Copthorne, which are long since gone. Quite expensive too, for below average stay. Wouldn’t pay another visit. Though not their fault, entire George Square area is disrupted due to building works, even when you’re walking.

Huge room in an old building. This was right in the center of everything. Restaurant in house.
