I had an excellent stay at Hotel Base Camp in Zermatt. The hotel is a short uphill walk from downtown and conveniently located between the ski funicular and the town center. Check-in was easy, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and welcoming. They host a small après gathering around 4 p.m. with cake and light refreshments, which was a lovely and worthwhile touch. The rooms are thoughtfully laid out with functional spaces for hanging coats and storing boots after a day outdoors, plus additional well-organized storage. The décor is exactly my style—outdoor recreation meets Alpine meets modern—with a cozy, comfortable feel. I slept very well. While the rooms are fairly close together, almost B&B-style, noise was minimal even with other guests on the same floor. Breakfast was superb. The baked goods, especially the croissants, were some of the best I’ve ever had, along with an excellent selection of meats and cheeses. I stuck with the European breakfast, though the staff happily prepared omelets and pancakes for others. The common areas are warm and inviting, with a communal table, a multilingual bookshelf, and a fireplace that’s perfect for relaxing after skiing. Overall, Hotel Base Camp combines the charm of a bed-and-breakfast with the functionality of a hotel designed for people who love the outdoors.

From start to finish the experience at Basecamp was amazing. Prior to arrival the staff were great at recommending and booking restaurants and snowboard hire. During the stay they were also fantastic, the brekky was great and the mountain view rooms were really well sized to settle in for 5 days. Location was a short walk everywhere and we thoroughly recommend

A wonderful room with a great view of the Matterhorn! Away from the busy part of town but still very accessible. Only downsides was the temperature of the room (we weren’t able to adjust at least to the best of our knowledge) and through the night some water noise was heard which kept waking us up.

I 100% recommend this hotel. Starting by the room, it was modern (nice tv, iphone and usb plugs, new shower) looking new, with a cozy alpine decor, comfy bed and it was pristine clean! The staff was incredible to me, so kind, sweet and helpful. They helped me with everything I needed (information, help with ski rental, called a taxi, remembered how I like my coffee), I am so thankful for everything and so glad I chose this place for my stay. Breakfast had fresh options. Also, I enjoyed the location, literally 7 min walk to the center of centre, 10 min walk from central station and sunnegga station, but still it was in a quiet place, felt very safe and peaceful. Amazing place for a much better price than some of the resorts around. I f/when I go back to Zermatt I’ll be choosing Basecamp again. Thank you everyone!

Hotel Basecamp was a wonderful place to stay. We arrived after closing and the staff had arranged for us to have an easy self-check in. Unfortunately, I was not feeling well during our one-night stay and the staff was happy to allow us a late check out, knowing I needed a bit more rest. This meant I was able to face the next day of travel with some renewed energy. (THANK YOU SO MUCH!) We had a lovely view of the Matterhorn from our hotel balcony. I was able to sit and sip hot tea there and get my only sightseeing done right there. We must return to Zermatt at some point so we can do the things we meant to do. When we do, Hotel Basecamp will be our choice for lodging. The breakfast was delicious, so my husband tells me.

This hotel surprised me. On a trip that took me to three different countries and six different hotels, my expectations for Hotel Basecamp when booking it weren't that high. But it exceeded expectations. It ended up being the nicest room on the trip. It was a very spacious room that had great lighting features and a really beautiful functional design (e.g., ledges on each side of the bed for your stuff along with USB A and C ports as well). There was excellent storage, a very nice bathroom with a great shower that actually closed properly, a steady hot water supply, and a nice big TV. The negatives? No fridge, no 24/7 front desk (I think the main property door was locked and front desk unmanned after 8 PM), and they use a physical key vs. card for the room doors. But the biggest negative was that the check-in was lengthy and cumbersome as I had to fill out multiple data screens (divulging more personal information than I thought was necessary) on an iPad. I didn't have to do that for the Italian hotels or the hotel in Lucerne, yet they said it was a Swiss requirement.
