Shirakawa-go and Gassho-zoo Shirakawa-go are located in the northwest of Gifu Prefecture and are surrounded by steep mountains. 96% of the village is forested and only 0.4% of the farmland is a typical mountain village. In December 1995, it was named "Shirakawa-go. It was registered as a World Heritage Site in the name of Gokayama Gassho Village.
Shirakawa-go Gassho Village is a village where you can enjoy different beautiful scenery all year round. It is most famous for its light-up event held between January and February every winter. Thick white snow piles on the thatched roof, and when lit up at night, it feels like being in a fairy tale scene, presenting a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere as if time has stood still. It only takes about an hour from Takayama to take the Nohi Highway Bus to Shirakawa-go. Don’t miss this dreamy illumination tour that only offers beautiful scenery in winter!
