Gadek Hot Spring in Alor Gajah has had a proper glow-up. Once a simple, no-frills dip spot known locally as Air Panas Gadek, it reopened in December 2024 as the Gadek Hotspring Wellness & Spa Resort, complete with proper rooms, family chalets with their own private hot pools, and a much-needed facelift to the whole site. 

The natural sulphur spring itself dates back to British colonial times, with a surface temperature of around 56°C, and it remains one of just three hot springs in Melaka. If you're planning a 2026 visit, this guide covers everything you need. 

The revamped site has a nice mix of communal pools and more private set-ups, so here's what to expect once you're through the gate.

The main pools are fed by the original 56°C sulphur spring, with different sections offering varying temperatures, from properly hot to a milder soak.

A shallower, cooler pool is available for kids, so families don't need to worry about little ones getting scalded in the hotter sections.

If you book a chalet, you'll get your own private hot spring pool attached to the room, a nice touch for couples or families wanting more privacy.

A prayer room (surau), changing rooms, and small food and drink stalls are available on-site, so you're covered for the basics without needing to leave.

- Mondays: Closed for routine water draining, chemical treating, and deep cleaning. 

- Tuesdays to Thursdays: 7:00 AM – 12:00 AM (Midnight).

- Fridays to Sundays: 7:00 AM – 3:00 AM (Late night/Early morning)

Exception for Overnight Resort Guests

If you are booking a room or villa to stay overnight at the resort complex, the accommodation wing is open 24 hours daily (including Mondays). In-house resort guests staying on a Monday are uniquely permitted to access the public hot spring pools after the weekly cleaning is finished and the fresh spring water has been refilled

Gadek Hot Spring sits conveniently along the main Melaka–Tampin road, making it an easy stop whether you're coming from Melaka town or further afield.

The resort is located in Kampung Ganun, Alor Gajah, roughly 25 km from Melaka town centre via the main Melaka-Tampin road, and about 5 km from Alor Gajah town itself. Self-driving is the easiest option, with the journey from Melaka town taking around 30–40 minutes. 

If you're coming from Melaka Sentral bus terminal, you will board the BAS.MY Route M20X (or Route M20) public stage bus. It drops you off directly at the Terminal Alor Gajah Sentral, where you can easily catch a short taxi or Grab ride out to the hot springs. The M20 trunk line generally runs every hour from Melaka Sentral starting at 6:00 AM  

Given the extended Friday-to-Sunday hours running until 3:00 AM, weekend nights here get properly lively, with locals often turning up late for a soak under the stars. If you prefer a quieter dip, aim for a weekday morning shortly after the 7:00 AM opening, ideally Tuesday to Thursday, before the after-work crowd rolls in.

A few practical pointers to help you make the most of your visit to the newly renovated resort.

1. Book a Chalet for Privacy. If you want your own hot spring pool without sharing with other visitors, booking one of the family chalets is well worth the extra cost.

2. Bring Modest Swimwear. As with most local hot springs, modest attire is appreciated and fits the family-friendly, community atmosphere of the site.

3. Watch Out for Slippery Walkways. Because the natural mineral water splashes onto smooth floor finishes, the pool borders can get exceptionally slippery when wet. Walk slowly and exercise caution when helping elderly relatives into the water. 

4. Test the Temperature Manually: In line with its authentic layout, the individual soaking tubs do not feature automated digital temperature displays. Always dip your fingers or toes into the water to gauge the heat before stepping all the way in. 

5. Stay Fully Hydrated. Soaking in natural sulfide thermal currents speeds up your metabolism and makes you perspire heavily. Bring a large bottle of drinking water to sip consistently throughout your visit.

Alor Gajah has plenty to offer beyond the hot spring itself, making it easy to turn your trip into a full day out.

1. A'Famosa Resort

Around 9 km or a 10-minute drive away, this well-known resort and theme park complex includes a water park, safari wonderland, and Wild West-themed attractions, great for a family day trip.

2. Alor Gajah Town

Just 5 km from the hot spring, this small town is worth a stop for local food and everyday Melaka charm away from the more touristy areas.

3. Keris Alor Gajah Square 

This local landmark is also around 9 km from the hot spring, makes for a quick, easy photo stop if you're passing through town.

4. Melaka Town (Jonker Street & Melaka River) 

About 30–40 minutes' drive away, Melaka's UNESCO-listed old town, Jonker Street night market, and riverside walks are well worth combining with your hot spring trip if you have a full day to spare.

Since Gadek Hot Spring now offers its own on-site rooms and chalets, that's worth considering first if you want to be right at the springs. But if you'd rather stay elsewhere in the Alor Gajah area, here are six solid picks.
