Your guide to train travel in Malaysia

Planning a train journey in Malaysia? Start with where you need to go: Kuala Lumpur International Airport, a city connection or an intercity destination. Traveloka’s Malaysia train search offers available KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit journeys. Choose your route and date to see the services you can book; the wider Malaysian rail network is not all sold through this search.

Choose the right train service in Malaysia

KLIA Ekspres: Kuala Lumpur airport travel

For travel between KL Sentral and Kuala Lumpur International Airport, compare KLIA Ekspres options for your terminal. Check the service pattern for your departure time, the direction of travel and the ticket’s usage instructions before booking.

KLIA Transit: check the station pair

KLIA Transit connects the airport corridor with stops including Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya and Salak Tinggi. Match the selected ticket to the stations you need. A KLIA Ekspres ticket and a KLIA Transit ticket are not interchangeable.

KTM ETS and KTM Intercity

Malaysia also has KTM ETS and KTM Intercity services. Their presence in the national network does not mean they are available in Traveloka’s train search. For an intercity journey, check the actual results for your route; if the required KTM service is absent, use KTMB’s booking channel.

KTM Komuter and urban rail

Commuter and urban rail serve different travel needs from an airport transfer or a reserved intercity journey. Check the relevant operator’s route and ticket system for local connections. Do not treat the airport rail ticket as a general Kuala Lumpur transit pass.

KL Sentral, KLIA T1 or KLIA T2: choose your stations

KL Sentral is the city transport hub; KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are separate airport terminals. Match your arrival station to the terminal on your flight itinerary. A Kuala Lumpur city label in search is a starting point: read the exact boarding station in the result before paying.

For a flight connection, work backwards from your airline’s check-in or bag-drop deadline. Allow time to reach the train platform, complete the rail journey and move through the terminal. After landing, allow for immigration and baggage collection before planning a train departure.

Compare Malaysia train schedules and fares in MYR

Search your travel date to compare the Malaysian services available. Check the full station names, departure time, journey duration and arrival time together. For early flights or late arrivals, confirm the operating hours rather than assuming the airport railway runs all night.

Compare the final fare in Malaysian ringgit (MYR) for the same route, passenger group and ticket type. A return ticket, a single journey and a dated voucher may have different conditions. Read the validity period and any redemption step as well as the price.

How to book Malaysia train tickets on Traveloka

  1. Select Malaysia and enter your departure point, destination, travel date and passengers. Choose a destination offered for your selected journey.
  2. Compare the available operator, exact stations, times and total price in MYR. Check the selected terminal and direction of travel.
  3. Enter the details requested for the ticket. Review passenger categories, validity, cancellation conditions and the payment total.
  4. After confirmation, open your booking and follow its ticket or voucher instructions. Complete any required exchange or activation before entering the platform.

Before your Malaysia rail journey

Children, luggage and assistance

Use the selected product’s passenger age bands and baggage conditions. If travelling with children, a wheelchair or extra luggage, check the arrangements before payment. Operator rules and booking-channel instructions can differ.

Changes, refunds and ticket use

Read the conditions attached to your booking for refunds, changes, valid travel dates and boarding. A voucher with a validity period is not automatically refundable. Keep the confirmation and any required identification accessible.

Travelling beyond Malaysia? Explore international trains

Once your Malaysia journey is planned, use the country selector for Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand or Vietnam. Compare the services returned for your own route and date. A country being listed does not mean every operator, route or rail pass is sold.

For Indonesia, international search can offer Whoosh journeys between the Jakarta and Bandung areas. It has different coverage from the separate Indonesia KAI booking page. For Thailand or Vietnam, read the exact station and overnight arrival date; Malaysian ticket rules do not carry over to those services.

Train ticket questions, answered

Which Malaysia train tickets can I find on Traveloka?

Search your route and date to see bookable Malaysia services. KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit options are available for airport rail journeys. Check the exact stations and operator in each result; this search does not represent every train service in Malaysia.

What is the difference between KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit?

Both serve the airport corridor, but they have different stopping patterns and ticket products. KLIA Transit serves intermediate stations. Choose the service that serves your station pair and check the current schedule; tickets for the two services are not interchangeable.

Can I travel between KL Sentral and KLIA by train?

KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit serve the city–airport corridor. Search your travel date, select KL Sentral and the correct airport terminal, then check the operator, departure time and ticket instructions in the result.

Should I choose KLIA Terminal 1 or Terminal 2?

Use the terminal shown on your flight itinerary. KLIA T1 and KLIA T2 are different stops. Recheck the terminal with your airline if the itinerary changes, and allow time to get from the station to check-in or arrivals.

Is KL Sentral the same as Kuala Lumpur station?

No. KL Sentral and Kuala Lumpur railway station are distinct stations. A city-level search can return a specific boarding point, so read the full departure station and plan how to reach it.

Does KLIA Transit stop at Putrajaya & Cyberjaya?

Yes. Putrajaya & Cyberjaya is on the KLIA Transit corridor. Search the station pair you need and check whether that exact ticket is offered. The station’s presence on the network does not guarantee availability through every sales channel.

Can I use KLIA Transit for Bandar Tasik Selatan or Salak Tinggi?

Both are KLIA Transit stops. Match your ticket to the departure and arrival stations shown in the result. Check onward transport separately; the airport rail ticket does not automatically include another bus or rail service.

Can I book KTM ETS or KTM Intercity here?

Do not assume KTM services are included. Search your exact route and date, and book only the operator and service actually listed. If the required KTM train is absent, check KTMB’s own booking channel rather than buying an airport rail ticket for an intercity trip.

Does this ticket include KTM Komuter, MRT or LRT?

Only if the selected product explicitly says so. A KLIA airport rail ticket is not a general urban transit pass. Check separate tickets and interchange arrangements for your onward journey.

How do I check Malaysia train ticket prices?

Enter your route, date and passenger count. Compare the final MYR amount for the same stations and ticket type, including the conditions shown before payment. Avoid comparing an airport transfer with an unrelated intercity or transit product.

Are fares displayed in Malaysian ringgit?

This page searches in MYR. Confirm the displayed currency in the result and payment summary, especially after changing country or currency settings. The final payable total is shown before you complete payment.

How do I check the first or last airport train?

Check the current schedule for your chosen service, direction and travel date. Do not assume all airport trains run overnight. Leave a suitable margin for flight check-in, baggage and movement through the terminal.

How much connection time should I leave before a flight?

Work backwards from your airline’s check-in or bag-drop deadline. Include travel to the station, time on the train and the walk through your terminal. Allow additional time if you need assistance or are travelling with checked baggage.

Can I buy a return train ticket?

Use the return option when available and compare the conditions for both journeys. Check the dates, direction and validity period. A return product may have different usage rules from two separate single tickets.

How do I book tickets for children?

Use the age categories and instructions for the selected rail product. Check whether a child needs a separate ticket, age evidence or activation at a counter. Do not apply one operator’s child policy to every Malaysian train.

Do I need to print or exchange my ticket?

Follow the confirmation for your chosen product. Some bookings provide a scannable ticket; others require a redemption or activation step. Check the instructions before reaching the gate rather than assuming every voucher is ready to scan.

Can I bring luggage or request accessibility assistance?

Read the operator and product information for luggage and accessibility arrangements. Check your entire journey, including station access and terminal connections. Contact the relevant service before booking if you need assistance not confirmed in the product details.

Can I refund or change a Malaysia train ticket?

Eligibility, deadlines and fees depend on the selected product and fare. Read the conditions before payment. For an existing booking, open its details and follow the available refund, change or support process.

Which international train countries can I search from this page?

The country selector also offers Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Vietnam. Choose the country first, then search the available route and date. Operators and ticket rules differ from Malaysia.

Does Indonesia train search include every KAI route?

No. International search has different inventory and can return Whoosh services in the Jakarta–Bandung corridor. For the wider Indonesian KAI catalogue, use the separate Indonesia train booking page and check availability there.
