Kanching Waterfall is one of Selangor's easiest rainforest escapes from Kuala Lumpur. Located in Rawang, the attraction combines seven waterfall tiers, natural pools, forest trails, and picnic areas, making it suitable for a short nature trip without travelling far from the city.
Whether you want to swim, hike, have a picnic, or simply spend a few hours surrounded by greenery, Kanching Waterfall can fit into a half-day itinerary. Here is what to know before visiting, including transport, entrance fees, food options, and places to stay nearby.
Kanching Waterfall is in Taman Eko Rimba Kanching, Rawang, about 21 km from Kuala Lumpur. Driving is the most convenient option, while public transport requires a combination of train and e-hailing.
By car: From Kuala Lumpur, take the route towards Kepong and Rawang, then follow signs for Templer's Park and Kanching. The journey usually takes around 30–45 minutes depending on traffic. The waterfall entrance is accessed from Jalan Rawang, near the Templer's Park area.
By KTM Komuter: Take the KTM Komuter train from KL Sentral heading towards the Rawang Station. The train ride takes roughly 45 minutes and costs under RM 5. Once you arrive at Rawang Station, hail a Grab car or a local taxi for the remaining short drive to the forest park. Alternatively, regional buses (such as Bus 150) run along Jalan Rawang and can drop you off directly in front of the park boundaries.
By e-hailing: Grab is practical if you are travelling with friends or family and do not have a car. However, arrange your return ride carefully because Kanching is a forest attraction rather than a busy urban transport hub.

The main attraction is the seven-tiered waterfall system, with each level offering a different combination of cascading water, pools, rocks, and forest scenery. Tourism Selangor describes Kanching as a waterfall park where visitors can choose between gentler lower levels and more challenging upper sections.
These are the easiest to reach and are popular for families and casual visitors. The pools and picnic spaces make these areas convenient if you are not planning a long hike.
These levels become progressively more challenging. Reaching the sixth and seventh tiers involves steeper terrain, so they are better suited to visitors wearing proper footwear and comfortable with hiking.
This is another attraction in its own right. Kanching Waterfall is also recognised as a geosite within the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark because of its geological and recreational value.
Kanching is more than a place to look at waterfalls. Give yourself at least a few hours if you want to combine swimming, hiking, and a picnic.
Several waterfall levels have pools where visitors can cool off. The lower sections are generally easier to access, while higher levels require more effort to reach.
Follow the waterfall trail upwards to experience the different tiers. The route becomes steeper as you climb, so trainers or hiking shoes are much safer than sandals or flip-flops.
Take advantage of the open grassy areas and stone tables near the park base. For larger corporate functions or organized community outings, large pavilion buildings (astaka) can be rented out through Tourism Selangor for RM 250 per day.
The combination of rainforest, cascading water, and rock formations creates plenty of photo opportunities, especially around the different waterfall tiers.
If you only have one morning or afternoon available, you do not have to reach the top. Tourism Selangor recommends spending around one to three hours at the forest park.
Keep food securely packed because monkeys are known to approach visitors around the recreational areas. More importantly, never feed wildlife and take your rubbish home or dispose of it properly.
Food planning is worth considering before your visit, particularly if you intend to spend several hours hiking. Some visitor sources mention food stalls around the entrance area, while nearby Rawang also has a selection of restaurants.
For a simple picnic, bring your own food, drinking water, and snacks. If you prefer a proper meal after the waterfall, Rawang is only a short drive away. Current restaurant listings include Indian, Chinese, seafood, vegetarian, and Malaysian options, with several eateries located around 2–5 km from the waterfall.
Pack food responsibly and keep it away from monkeys. A waterproof bag is also useful if you are carrying snacks, a phone, or other valuables while moving between the waterfall pools.

Kanching Waterfall can be visited throughout the year, but the timing of your trip matters because the attraction is outdoors and the trails can become slippery after rain.
For a more comfortable experience, weekday mornings are a practical choice. Arriving early also gives you more time to explore before the lower waterfall areas become busy.
Visiting during the dry season can make hiking easier, but tropical rain can occur at any time in Malaysia. During wetter conditions, be particularly cautious around rocks and streams.
Avoid entering or continuing upstream during heavy rain. Water levels can rise quickly after rainfall in the surrounding hills, creating potentially dangerous conditions. Check the weather before leaving Kuala Lumpur and follow any safety instructions at the park.
The park operates under a structured fee system managed by the local forestry department. Because operational arrangements can change, check the latest Tourism Selangor Updates before traveling, especially on public holidays.
Opening Hours: Daily, from 8.00am to 5.00pm
Entrance Fee:
Malaysian visitors: RM 4 (weekdays), RM 5 (weekends/public holidays)
Foreign visitors: RM 10 (weekdays), RM 12 (weekends/public holidays)
Parking fees: RM 5 for cars, RM 2 for motorcycles, RM 15 for buses
Amenities: Basic changing rooms and public restrooms are accessible near the lower tiers for RM 0.50 per entry.
Because operating arrangements and fees can change, check the latest Tourism Selangor information before travelling, especially if your visit falls on a public holiday.
