Lubuk Timah Waterfall: The First-Timer’s Cheat Sheet

Planning your first visit to Lubuk Timah Waterfall? Located in Simpang Pulai, Perak, Lubuk Timah is a little different from a typical waterfall stop. The recreational centre combines a waterfall with hot spring pools, picnic areas, basic facilities, and plenty of space to spend a few relaxed hours outdoors.

It's also only about 8 km from the Simpang Pulai toll, making it relatively easy to reach by car. If you've never been here before, knowing what to expect can make the visit much easier to plan.

Why You Have to Visit Lubuk Timah Waterfall

The waterfall itself is a reason to come, but it's not the only thing that makes Lubuk Timah worth a visit.

1. You Get a Waterfall and Hot Spring in One Trip

The biggest draw of Lubuk Timah is the combination of cool waterfall water and warm hot spring pools within the same recreational area. The hot spring is located beside the river, while the waterfall is only a short walk away.

That means you don't have to choose between a refreshing waterfall trip and a relaxing hot spring visit. You can do both in a single outing.

2. It's More Than a Quick Photo Stop

Lubuk Timah is set up as a recreational centre rather than simply a waterfall viewing point. There are gazebos, rest huts, toilets, a surau and other basic facilities, so it's easy to spend several hours here instead of arriving, taking photos and leaving.

3. There's a Bit of History Behind the Waterfall

Lubuk Timah has an interesting connection to Perak's tin-mining past. The old dam at the site was built on Sungai Anak Ayer Cina in the early 20th century and was associated with mining activities. Today, water flows over the old structure, creating the waterfall that visitors come to see.

Things to Do at Lubuk Timah Waterfall

Once you arrive, there's enough to keep you occupied beyond simply looking at the waterfall.

1. Cool Off at the Waterfall

The waterfall is reached by a short walk from the main recreational area, so you don't need to prepare for a long hike.

If you plan to get into the water, take extra care around rocks and stronger currents, especially after rain.

2. Soak in the Hot Spring

After spending time in the cool river water, head back to the hot spring pools for a completely different experience.

The hot spring area has several pools with different temperatures. Take your time and test the water before getting in, particularly if you're sensitive to heat.

3. Have a Picnic

Lubuk Timah is well suited to a leisurely picnic. You can bring your own food and use one of the rest areas or rent a gazebo for a more comfortable setup.

The official recreational centre lists gazebo and hut rentals, with prices starting from RM10 for a hut.

4. Explore the Surrounding Area

If you're not in a rush, take some time to walk around the recreational centre and enjoy the forested surroundings. The area also offers trekking and other outdoor activities, so you can make your visit as relaxed or active as you like.
