Langkawi has no shortage of beaches, viewpoints, and island-hopping tours, but Seven Wells Waterfall offers a completely different side of the island. Known locally as Telaga Tujuh, this rainforest attraction sits on the slopes of Gunung Mat Cincang, where cascading water forms a series of natural rock pools surrounded by dense greenery.
What makes Seven Wells Waterfall particularly interesting is that you do not have to commit to a long jungle adventure to enjoy it. The lower pools can be reached with a shorter climb, while the upper section rewards those willing to tackle hundreds of steps with the famous seven natural wells.

The name tells you what makes this waterfall different. Seven Wells, or Telaga Tujuh, refers to seven natural pools formed along the upper section of the waterfall. Geological records from the Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark describes these bowls as smooth rock basins sculpted by rushing stream waters and swirling pebbles over millions of years.
The waterfall itself drops approximately 91 metres (300 feet), while the lower section has larger pools that are easier to reach. The upper pools require a much more demanding climb, with the official Langkawi Cable Car website currently describing the route as around 638 steps and approximately one hour of climbing.
That difference is useful to know before you arrive. A visit to Seven Wells Waterfall does not necessarily mean climbing all the way to the top. You can enjoy the lower section and rainforest scenery without taking on the entire staircase.

Seven Wells Waterfall is located in the north-western part of Langkawi, along Jalan Telaga Tujuh near the Langkawi SkyCab and Oriental Village area. Its location makes it particularly convenient to combine with other attractions around Pantai Kok.
From Kuah Town, follow the road towards the western side of Langkawi and continue in the direction of Oriental Village and Langkawi SkyCab.
The waterfall is located only a short drive from the SkyCab area. If you are driving a rental car or motorcycle, the route is paved and accessible without a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
From the parking area, the lower pools involve roughly 200 steps. Continuing towards the upper wells takes the total climb to around 600–638 steps, depending on the route and how the distance is counted.
For Malaysian and international visitors alike, renting a car or motorcycle can be one of the more convenient ways to reach this part of Langkawi, particularly if you plan to visit the SkyCab, Sky Bridge, and Pantai Kok on the same day.
Seven Wells is more than a quick stop for a photograph. Its appeal comes from the way several experiences are packed into one natural attraction.
1. See the seven natural pools: The upper pools are the feature behind the Telaga Tujuh name and are surrounded by forest and rock formations.
2. Cool off in the lower pools: The lower section has larger pools and is considerably easier to reach than the upper wells.
3. Add a little adventure: The staircase becomes part of the experience if you decide to continue upwards.
4. Enjoy rainforest scenery: The waterfall sits within the Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park, an area associated with some of Langkawi's ancient geological formations.
5. Pair it with SkyCab: Oriental Village and Langkawi SkyCab are nearby, making it easy to combine nature and sightseeing in one outing.
There is also a local legend that fairies once came to the waterfall to bathe and play. The story adds a cultural layer to a landscape that is already distinctive because of its natural pools and cascading water.
A good visit does not have to follow a strict checklist. Instead, decide how much time and energy you want to spend at the waterfall.
The pools are the obvious attraction, particularly after rainfall when the water flow can be stronger. However, natural rocks can become slippery, and currents may be stronger than they appear. Exercise caution before entering the water.
For visitors who enjoy hiking, the staircase provides the more active side of Seven Wells Waterfall. The official attraction information puts the climb at about 638 steps, so allow enough time and bring drinking water.
The pools are not simply man-made basins. They developed naturally through the movement of flowing water and rocks over geological time. Some of the upper wells range from roughly 2 to 5 metres across, according to Langkawi Geopark material.
Since Seven Wells Waterfall is close to the cable car and Oriental Village, you can create a full half-day around the area. Visit the waterfall earlier, then continue to the cable car and surrounding attractions.
Even if you decide not to climb all the way up, the sound of falling water and the surrounding greenery make the lower section suitable for a slower stop away from Langkawi's busier beach areas.

Morning is generally a practical choice for Seven Wells Waterfall. Starting earlier gives you more comfortable temperatures for the staircase and leaves plenty of daylight for the upper pools.
Water levels also influence the experience. Recent local guidance notes that wetter months can produce stronger waterfall flow, while the rocks may become more slippery after rain.
For safety, avoid attempting the steep upper route immediately after particularly heavy rainfall. The combination of wet steps, smooth rocks and flowing water can make the climb more difficult.
If swimming is part of your plan, check the conditions when you arrive rather than assuming that every pool will be suitable. Natural waterfalls change with rainfall, and water depth and current strength can vary.
Seven Wells Waterfall is generally accessible during daylight hours, from 8.30am to 6.00pm daily, with the final gate entry closing at 5.30pm.
There is some variation in published information about fees. The official Langkawi Cable Car website currently lists access to Telaga Tujuh with the following hiking ticket prices:
- International Visitors: RM 10 per adult / RM 5 per child (ages 2–12).
- Malaysian Citizens (MyKad): RM 2 per adult / RM 1 per child.
- Vehicle Parking Kiosk: RM 2 for cars / RM 1 for motorcycles.
Note: All entry tickets must be settled in cash at the registration desk, where you will also sign the mandatory visitor tracking logbook for wilderness safety tracking.
Seven Wells Waterfall itself is primarily a nature attraction, so it is better to think of food as part of the wider Pantai Kok and Oriental Village outing.
For a simple plan, have breakfast before arriving, carry drinking water and snacks for the climb, then stop for a proper meal after leaving the waterfall. Oriental Village is particularly convenient because it sits close to the SkyCab base and has food and drink options around the attraction area.
If you are travelling by car, you can also continue towards Pantai Kok or other parts of western Langkawi after your visit. This gives you more flexibility than relying on food immediately beside the waterfall.
Staying around Pantai Kok or Burau Bay puts you close to Seven Wells Waterfall, Langkawi SkyCab, and Oriental Village. You can easly find a luxury hotel for your convenience.
