We stayed 3 nights in March 2026. Coober Pedy is a dusty place in the outback with flies. We knew this and arrived with fly hats and average expectations with regard to the hotel. It was fun staying in a cave room, which was dusty with cave dust (we even had a small rock fall from the ceiling onto the room table when we were in bed! All part of the experience). We tried the food in the hotel which wasn't great so ventured out and tried a few different local eateries. The hotel pool was clean & secure and very welcome at the end of a hot day. Coober Pedy is a very small town. There's an IGA, restaurants and a few tourist things to do within walking distance of the hotel. Felt pretty safe. Unfortunately for us the Breakaways was closed due to wet weather & unsafe to drive but we went up to the Winch 360 within Coober Pedy town instead to see a nice sunset. There is an outdoor cinema which only operates on Saturdays and we missed that but thought it would've been fun. Also, no orphaned kangeroos to visit when we were there but guess that's a good thing.

Clean and very spacious underground room . I was quite scared but wanted to experience this type of accommodation and didn’t feel claustrophobic as ceilings were very high . Our room was amazing.

Perfect underground rooms were extremely quiet and spacious. Not having a dinner service was disappointing, but John's Pizza Bar directly across the street was an awesome place to eat & drink. Wanted to swim in the pool but was disappointed with the lack of maintenance and cleaning was a let down. Also we were denied take away cans for our rooms but the locals could easily purchase and leave with beverages. Frequent visits from locals into the carpark and building was unchecked and left us feeling unsafe.

While the room was clean, the bathroom definitely needs an upgrade/refresh. The bed was like sleeping on rocks, very hard, lumpy and uncomfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful.

I have stayed at a few hotels in town now and this was the best to date. Clean (dated - BUT they all are) and centrally located. Beds were good, bathroom again dated but clean. The night we stayed it was quite. Bar was clean and modern. Parking unsecure but we parked outside our room. I would stay here again over the others I have tried.

We would not stay at this motel again and don't recommend it. The bathroom / shower cubicle was not very clean with mould present. The bed sheets appeared clean but were stained. Way to expensive at $196.00 per night. We also stayed in another motel in Cobber Pedy a few days latter which was $70.00 a night cheaper and much nicer.

Nice underground room situated in the Main Street of Coober Pedy. Staff were excellence and I cannot fault them. A few issues with the room that brought my rating down, debris over the couch, minimal sockets for charging phone and non-existent WiFi. However, if you’re looking for a comfy bed with good walking distance to the different attractions this was a good stay.

The idea of staying an underground hotel was exciting & the accommodation itself was quite basic (comparable to the price). Unfortunately there was a lot lacking, particularly customer service and cleanliness. We arrived mid-afternoon and reception was closed - a note on the door to go to the bar/restaurant to check-in - which we did. The staff member advised that reception was on their break and we would have to wait, no indication of how long and now attempt to check us in... About 30 minutes later we checked in, all OK. We were presented with a document titled 'Hotel Information' and the attendant when through the information on the front page. What was not communicated on the other side of the document was that as an in-house guest we were entitled to a 15% discount on food (we paid full price) & that the room would only be serviced by request (notwithstanding in the bathroom there was a sign saying that linen and towels would be changed every 3 days). We stayed 4 nights, no servicing of the room during this time. Whether you're going green or trying to save a few $$ - understandable in this economy - as a guest I would prefer that a hotel be transparent about what they will or won't provide during a guests stay. Overall hotel is in a great location, quite tired, common areas not cleaned regularly and the service needs significant adjustment. Just a pity because a stay underground is something quite unique.

Renovated bathroom was nice. Towels were small and thin. The AC blew directly on the bed which is not good for individuals with sinus issues, like us. Parking was a challenge at evening when rooms started filling up. Receptionist was very helpful with helping us determine if road closures were in place for our trip the next day. Museum was very informative.

Our room was not “below Ground” as expected, but dug in to the side of the hill. Yes there is a difference. Although the room was cool and acceptable, it should be mentioned this is a dug out and not a BELOW ground level room. The Pool was closed for our ENTIRE stay, no info given before hand and we chose hotel as it had a pool. Had we known we could have booked alternative place.
