I really like staying at this. It is so often when in Nanaimo….the only flaw/request is to have coffee in the lobby ( this is now common practice) on that note the last 2 times I was there they did indeed have coffee However; it seems they away again within an hour

We simply love the Dorchester hotel and have been staying here for many years. It is close to everything, nice restaurants, the waterfront, shops etc. The staff is super helpful, the room was very clean and the Top Notch restaurant is very good! We had the best chicken burger there and the service was amazing. This hotel has atmosphere. The view on the harbour side is so lovely. You do have to be aware that float planes take off from the harbor so that side of the hotel can mean an earlier wake up if you don't sleep soundly however the night is fine. They also have free parking which is great! Highly recommend the Dorchester!

2 notes: be sure to book a harbour view or the "city" view is an office building across the street. AND the parking info is a lie..it is not "onsite"! They have 2 small parking lots 1/2 a block down the hill which also serve the public during the day. AND if you get back late in the evening there is no parking. You either park on the street where you can find it and have to move your vehicle before 8am or pay, or find their alternate parking lot 3 minutes drive away and walk back. Wouldn't have minded as much if we were given a heads up. Pluses include staff were exceptional. They kept the salmon we caught frozen until we left. And they helped change our reservation to a harbour view which was beautiful. The restaurants on site are nice with tasty food. Walking to the pier and overlooking the harbour across the street was nice. A couple cute coffee shops and gift stores are about the extent of the area around the hotel, but it was convenient and close to the highway for treks and adventures in the area.

I was very impressed! I arrived very late. The staff had turned my room light on and had turned on the ac. I walked into such treat after a very long day of driving. Clean, quiet and restful!! Kudos to this place!!

We weren’t able to stay at the hotel due to the terrible smell in our room. The entire hotel had a funky smell, but it was really bad on our floor and even worse in our room. It was so bad that we had to leave the hotel. Sadly, we were still charged even though the room was not suitable or up to standards. Incredibly disappointed.

Our room had all amenities. The bed was not as comfortable. The front desk staff were great. The restaurant staff were a bit slow. The food was overall ok . Try the Old City pub or the Thai restaurant close by. Great location . It’s a bit dated hotel with a sloppy feel in a room / hall way. Good value.

Excellent staff great location old building with old building noises not very soundproof and on the path for the fire department. Rooms are small for how much you pay compared to other hotels definitely paying for the location.
