ABode Chester

Checked in and staff were lovely and very helpful Later in the evening we decided to try the roof top bar, unfortunately more training is needed for the bar tenders as the cocktails had to be remade due to them not being made right, and even on the second attempt still not right but more palatable. One set of towels in the bath room rang reception to be told have you checked the wardrobe, Yes.. did you look in the black bag…… No. Why you would put clean towels in a black bag in the wardrobe is very strange you are more lividly to put dirty towels in a black bag than clean, never see any hotel do this before. Breakfast 🙃 well continental breakfast is what is advertised which is over sold and under delivered… all you get on the continental is three different cereals limited fruit and tea and coffee You were then allowed to choose one item from light bites so if you chose the porridge you then could have toast or pastries with out paying another £5.00. You were allowed one glass of juice I asked for cranberry off the menu told there was none so opted for a different one then 10 minutes later a guest on the opposite table ordered cranberry and was served cranberry. You could then order at an additional £10.00 cooked breakfast but no one came to see if we wanted, the napkin and cutlery were dirty on the table also It is a shame as the hotel has so much potential, staff were doing the best they could but definitely not with the money. This hotel group is now a miss for us..

The location is pretty good and room was a good size but the hotel felt tired generally. Breakfast was quite poor and the breakfast lounge a bit grubby, crumbs still on seats from night before and table tops could be cleaner. The staff were very helpful and the room was nice and clean. Very comfy bed.

First time staying at the Abode, very impressed with the exception of steam extraction in the bathroom and perhaps brighter lighting in the bedroom .

We loved the rooms and the hotel. It is in a great location and there is good underground parking albeit £20 pn. Some of the rooms and areas are starting to look a little bit tatty in places. The chair I sat on in the dining area was quite disgusting. It was covered in stains. I would not bother with the breakfast. It is really terrible. We had the continental offering.Porridge tasted like the milk had gone off and took about 30 minutes from order to serving.My husband ordered toast and it was stole cold when it arrived. It didn't even melt the butter slightly the continental breakfast menu had been changed since our last stay 3 weeks prior. We thought it was very bad last time but this is even worse. There were no capuccinos. They were replaced by 2 urns of stale coffee and hot water for the make your own cup of tea. Sliced fruit was replaced by whole fruit. A women on the next table helped herself to 2 bananas and 2 large plums from the fruit bowl and put them in her bag. This falling standards and cost cutting must be loosing the hotel many of it customers.

We have been coming here every year for the last 10 years. Decor hasn’t changed and really is in need of a refurb now. Breakfast was also really disappointing this year, no decent hot drinks unless you paid for them in addition to a hot breakfast. Also VERY surprised having to pay for breakfast before leaving the restaurant (rather than at check out) This used to be the gold standard hotel to stay at for the races but not now I’m afraid.

Staff very friendly. Room was ok for one night. Breakfast was very tasty. We love staying here as its not far away from city centre.

Terrible breakfast

Lovely hotel in a good location. Beds and pillows really comfy. Staff welcoming and friendly. Car park was full so used racecourse carpark. Not far to walk and only £10 per night.(Hotel is £20). Didnt have any meals in hotel so cant comment on food.Had a lovely 2 night stay.

The room was very clean and tidy, and I’ve stayed at the property several times before, my last visit being in February, always receiving exceptional service. The Abode is my ho to hotel in Chester. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the check-in experience was not up to the usual standard and was quite disappointing. I also found the staff member to be rude and not at all helpful, which negatively impacted my overall experience.

Hotel is in a good place to get into the city and if you want to go to the races. However, apart from that; we found it very disappointing for a 4* hotel. We checked in at 9pm - got given the key card and told to go in the elevators and nothing else. Had to ask breakfast times and where it was. Didn’t get told check out time. The continental breakfast is not good. You get an option of 1 item off a set menu - no substitutes/changes to the menu. Only get 1 hot drink provided and then have to pay if you wish for any more; same with a cold drink. Takes ages to turn up which on a city break isn’t helpful. The 2nd item is fruit but only whole fruit from a basket. Windows in room don’t open and A/C does not keep the room cool so had a couple of hot evenings to sleep through. Bed was well used and had a large dip in it. You roll sideways to the edge of the bed during the night. We advised our “issues” on check out but were just told okay thanks for staying. On a positive note the cleaners did a great job.

Breakfast was terrible value. it was offered as a continental breakfast but what actually came were offerings that did not include and cheese or ham or even a boiled egg. My husband discussed it the manager. There is a new menu on its way.Staff were all very friendly.There just seemed to be fewer around than on previous stays over the years.in general the hotel is in a great location. Short walk into centre of Chester, great parking under the hotel for £20 per night. Just think the rooms are maybe getting a little bit tired and we just couldn't work the TV . There was also a lack of general info in the room. It's all on app/site but again not easy to use. Would I go back again? Yes, but only in the Enviable or Most enviable rooms. Never had a suite yet in the numerous stays since it opened.

The staff are fantastic, kind, helpful and attentive. It is a shame that the breakfast was poor and that it has hidden charges. The hotel itself needs TLC

Quite a strange hotel? Its in a nice spot and not a bad set up. But the doors are banging all hours amd the walls are very thin, so no sleep. At breakfast the service was non existent despite it been wuiet. You can only have one item, so i could have cereal, but toast was extra? I wont be back im afraid.

Good sized clean room with a decent continental breakfast.
