What Guests Say About Their Stay

We always stay here when visiting family who live close by. Hotel is beautifully situated and has a good size car park. Although rooms are looking a little tired, especially the bathrooms, it is always clean and the beds comfy. It could really do with having the rooms upgraded it would make the stay perfect. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.

I loved my stay at this hotel. The staff were excellent. The property and hotel were beautiful. Even though the hotel was fairly busy during our stay, I seldom heard other guests. Did I mention that the staff were excellent?

There needs to be more renovation to this property. Our room was nice bit outdated but the corridor leading to our room needs attention panels of wall needs replacing. Looks likes partway through job so maybe on to it. The entrance, bar and dining area all lovely and well presented

My fault really for not appreciating the compromises that come with a country house hotel. The room was large and well maintained but having no air con and no proper ventilation in the bathroom meant it fell short of what I think a 4 star hotel is like. Breakfast was very good and the staff were very willing to help when asked.

Having done some painful damage to my knee, I arrived walking with a walking stick. I was put in a room up several flights of stairs and there is no lift (but they don't tell you that on their website). I had to drag my bags up while trying to hold onto the banister to pull myself up the stairs. I saw other guests struggling with bags on the stairs too. Yes, it was a hot night, but you could have almost cooked your dinner in the oven of a room I was put in, with only a small window and, being a hotel room with a closed door, obviously no through draught of any kind. A desk fan that barely moved a piece of paper around was my only source of ventilation, so I barely slept a wink, then had a 2o00 mile drive the next day. I have had many enjoyable stays in Mercure hotels in the past, but I won't be returning to or recommending this one. I even ended up not eating because of the trip up and down stairs again that I faced, and it was too hot in my room to sit eating there. I wouldn't normally give such a grim review of anywhere, and had some thoughtfulness of my mobility issues been forthcoming then I wouldn't be doing this now. The hotel looked tired and it was too expensive for what it was.

Yes, the ‘privilege’ room needs some TLC but the staff and the service they give are second to none. The surroundings were lovely. The food was excellent. Thank you.

Lovely stay - clean and comfortable room, a little tired but perfectly functional. Prices very reasonable for the setting, standard of service and breakfast. The staff at breakfast on Sunday 15th June were particularly great - very polite, helpful and smiley. We will stay again :)

Expedia Site says there is a Gym at the property. Which is why I booked this reasonably priced hotel. There is no Gym and the apology I received was inadequate. The hotel is set in lovely grounds, Minimal efforts made to conserve energy or reduce plastic.

Listing says they have a gym but this is closed and has been for some time. This should be updated. The room also wasn’t cleaned properly- I had a two night stay and the rubbish bag was taken out of the bin and then left on the side, not very hygienic. The double bed was two singles pushed together. The breakfast was excellent. The service was friendly and welcoming. Easy free parking. Lovely setting.

The grounds and surrounding area are beautiful but inside the hotel is tired and feels unclean. The bathroom taps were falling apart, light switches weren’t working and the carpets and furniture in the room were very old and worn. Staff were good and attentive but it wasn’t a great stay. I’ll look for alternatives in future.
